Both of these images are showing banding, the colour image is pretty extreme.  Thoughts?

Just checked my Corfe Castle .dng and when I crank-up 'De-haze' to extremes, it confirms that any apparent banding in the sky is actually narrow lines of of wispy high-level cloud.  (It also shows up dust-bunnies - bu*gger!)

I am not very knowledgable about the 90mm offerings from Leica, but it's a focal length I want to get into to have a companion to my 35 lux ASPH.

At my local Leica store, there are two used 90s that I could afford (they sell for the same price). They are:

ELMARIT-M 90 mm f/2,8 (1990-2007)

SUMMICRON-M 90 mm f/2 (1980-1998)

Besides the aperture, what are the main differences between the two, and which one would you suggest if they cost the same price...

THanks

Hey Steven,

I was recently in the same trouble as you are now. I picked the elmarit for its size and its amazing performance. It is crisp but still has a nice personality.  The cron was slightly larger and the performance didn’t differ that much.

I do have a question, I am considering the 35fle, do you find it to be an easy lens to carry around all day?

Great, thanks! Now I have to find sample images of that lens. Let the research begin.

About the 35, its the best lens I've ever owned in my life. It's very very small, well built, and the image quality is perfect. You will love it. If I only could keep one it would be the one?

ELMARIT-M 90 mm f/2,8 (1990-2007)

SUMMICRON-M 90 mm f/2 (1980-1998)

The Elmarit 1990-2007 will be a closer match to a 35 lux ASPH in imaging character - color tint, contrast, knife-edge clarity at wider apertures.

Nothing wrong with the 1980 pre-APO Summicron (I have one myself and love it). But it represents an earlier design approach from Leitz. Less contrast, greener color, less clarity (but lovely bokeh, second only to 75 Summilux) wide-open.

You are right about banding, the original doesn’t show that. It probably happened with uploading the picture. The colours are as they are, i only used the adjust button for ‘hazard adjustment’ in lightroom.
