Thanks very much, yes - these were the towers. They were known as the Red Road flats. Highest residential towers in Europe when they were built. They became notorious for a disproportionate amount of crime, and eventually nobody wanted to live there. Leica M9-P, 90mm Tele-Elmarit "fat" version 1 The Red Road flats were fantastic for pictures. Back in 1992, my girlfriend lived in one of the point block towers, (the one on the far left of this picture) on the 26th floor. The views across the city were incredible. There was a balcony you could sit out on, and track the weather as it moved around. You felt like you were up in the clouds, all you could hear was the wind blowing. You couldn't hear the city below. I had quite a soft spot for those towers. I got talking recently to a guy who lived in the towers when he was a young man. He said his favourite thing about waking up in a strangers' house on a Saturday morning, when he'd been out clubbing the night before, was that, no matter where he was in the city, he could always see his house somewhere on the horizon, and it was easy to navigate back home. I've owned a few 90mm lenses over the years but the only one I've used consistently is the 90 Macro Elmar and that's because, with the adaptor, it can do something that no other M lens can do. Rather than throw them out, I thought I'd stick them in a jar with water to see if they'd grow. This morning I was eating breakfast and glanced into the room where I'd placed them on a small table and saw that a shaft of morning sunlight was lighting them. In the old bristol city docks they still operate 3 electric cranes and a fairburn steam crane a few times a year as an attraction which is great although they are not as big as the ones in your photo.
