kepstein Posted June 2, 2020 Share #1 Posted June 2, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Can anyone steer me toward a source for these. They are for a Summicron 35 ASPH v1. Thanks, Ken
Advertisement Posted June 2, 2020 Posted June 2, 2020 Hi kepstein, Take a look here Rubber cap for 12526 lens hood. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
fotomas Posted June 3, 2020 Share #2 Posted June 3, 2020 Hard to believe, but Leica discontinued it. So I'm afraid it's gone forever. Guess the number needed is to small for the Chinese to jump in. Will be hard to get one. I've also searched for it. The Elmarit 28 ASPH1 is also affected. Couldn't understand the sense of this decision. Maybe it's that buy new lens instead? If someone is in 3D printing, I can try to make a model therefor. :(
fatihayoglu Posted June 3, 2020 Share #3 Posted June 3, 2020 I had the very exact problem, lost mine in Helsinki on a trip, looked around for weeks, even wrote to Leica about it. Then luckily found it in Leica Store İstanbul. Technically Leica has to provide service and spare parts up to quite some time for any product they manufacture under EU regulations which I have pointed out to the Leica team alas no improvement on that side. I gave up after losing too many and having to replace them expensively, so now I use this kind of "Hoodie".......works fine, protects all the lens not just the front element and can be found cheaply enough on Ebay or Amazon etc....I found that the smallest size fits most Leica M lenses. https://www.amazon.com/LensCoat-LCHSMBK-Hoodie-Small-Black/dp/B0087N2K14/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=lens+hoodie&qid=1591186092&s=electronics&sr=1-

But it's just a matter of time until it slips away. So I'm also interested if they can deliver some, if someone gives it a try.
lct Posted June 6, 2020 Share #7 Posted June 6, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Good way to avoid that, keep the cap at home or in your bag. When i was young i used a similar 12524 hood but hood caps did not exist then so i did not miss them at all .
Michael Hiles Posted June 6, 2020 Share #8 Posted June 6, 2020 There is a place in California called Kevin's Cameras - they often have odd things (never cheap, but sometimes available). They have a website that shows an online catalogue.

johnkunstadter Posted June 7, 2020 Share #10 Posted June 7, 2020 Popflash Photo in California sells a Match Technical cap for the 12526 hood: https://www.popflash.com/LC-SR-02 You might also try something like the Sensei lens cap holder: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=sensei cap keeper lens cap holder&N=0&InitialSearch=yes&sts=ps
plaidshirts Posted November 3, 2020 Share #11 Posted November 3, 2020 I’ve given up looking and use a modified hood hat instead. Not as elegant of course but offers better protection and a replacement is only about $10. Welcome, dear visitor! Ouroboros Posted November 3, 2020 Share #12 Posted November 3, 2020 Leica are obviously so embarrassed by that expensive piece of junk that they washed their hands of it. I lost mine once and after a short search I recovered it. It went straight into the box with the useless leather pouch and has stayed there. You don’t need it!

Thanks, Ken Ken - the match technical cap LC-SR 02 works very well - much better than the Leica one! I use them on my 28/2.8 and 35/2 v4 and they fit perfectly. ijohansson Posted November 22, 2020 Share #14 Posted November 22, 2020 You can actually find replacement caps on Ebay that are cheaper than Match technical! Just search for "Leica 12526", "Leica cap" or "Leica 14043". 1

Ecar Posted November 28, 2020 Share #17 Posted November 28, 2020 I have no affiliation with the seller, but can confirm that these are pretty close to the real thing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Leica-14043-replacement-lens-cap-for-Summicron-35mm-Elmarit-28mm-12524-12526/264883227425?hash=item3dac454b21:g:WXkAAOSwaFlfrUGS
