Most of us seem to be photographers as well as collectors.

Show me your favorite lenses, old and new alike.

I like the Noctilux range for the extreme apertures, but I prefer the Summilux range for the best speed:size/weight ratio.

Here’s a Summilux gathering of 21, 24, 28, 35, 50 and 75mm. All in black.

Nice combination. Do you shoot film exclusively?

I shoot 35mm, medium format, and large format film.

I shoot Fuji, Canon, Olympus, and Nikon digital.

I had a Leica M10 for a short period of time but had to return it because it was defective.

Love your taste in color scheme, Hari!

Find the Summiluxii a but too heavy.

Here's my cackle; a 21 SEM, 28 Elmarit, 50 APO and 75 Summicron. Forgot the silver 35 Biogon C at home (!!)

Bit of a sticky wicket here, since I usually consider "favorite lens" questions to be akin to asking a pianist, "So, what are your favorite notes?"

However, this is my current "most used" set.

  • Leica Summicron M 1:2/35mm (Germany Version IV) on the M10M

And in the the drawer... to much other lenses 🤭

After many detours, I have finally found my dream team. Because I can never agree with myself if I prefer classic or modern, I have simply one of each:

  • 35 Summicron IV (mounted on camera)
  • 35 Summilux FLE (on top of camera)
  • 50 Summilux III (to the right)
  • 50 Summilux ASPH BC (to the left)

(The M10 is my only "real" camera, so the picture is taken with my iPhone)

Agree, my idea of favorite keeps shifting with time/purpose. Let’s say the flavor of the moment, or those pieces that you want to share.

Nice selection that’s stood the rest of time. Where’s your 75lux?

That’s an electric mix of classic and modern. Interesting how you mix fingerprints. Do you use them for the same storyboard, or in the same kit but for different purposes?

I usually take one lens and then decide on the body (Color or Monochrom).  If I want to do macro the obvious choice is the 100mm R lens but the Thambar is not a bad choice either for 1 meter close focus shots and of course "paints" the subject more artistically than the razor sharp Elmarit.

The Nikkor is a little gem from the past and makes the M body a real a point and shoot camera, always wide open and I don't bother about the lesser contrast and sharpness than more modern designs.

And since 35 mm as always been my favourite focal length the Summicron IV is either on the M10 or on the M10M when on the go.

As said I have too much lenses but these are the more "extremes" that let you focus on one type of photography.  I like to make a plan in my head, then decide the lens, body and then go out with only that gear.  I always travel light with no camera bag (except for multi day trips but then the rest of the gear stays in the car or hotel)

Replaced by the team of 75 ASMA (for close-focus) and 90 Summicron (for Mandler characteristics).

Nothing exotic at all. All 3 together weigh a mere 733g (1lb 10oz) and constitute what I've decided is the perfect trio for my needs 95% of the time.

Nice rig. Small and compact.

I was hoping with all this technology and progress, the lenses being made would somehow be a bit smaller and lighter.
Yes, physics, but it seems to be a race to create showcase menhirs than deliver the best daily driver.

I don’t have a problem lugging 5kg around and walking 10-15 km a day, but it’s not my ideal state. This kit above barely weigh anything noticeable. Nice.

Only just sat down to have a good read through this thread (busy day). Some Lovely Lenses!

I'll add my thanks for all the (very nice) snaps which I've really enjoyed perusing. Such a great mix of the Classic and the Modern as well as variations such as M-mount / R-mount and otherwise! Fascinating stuff! All Good Clean Fun.

Thanks, Hari, for starting the thread. I'm going to enjoy reading this as it evolves.

Philip.

These are my favorite lenses. I use them with the CL (digital) and MP (analog). Most were acquired second hand at very reasonable prices compared to current Leica lens offerings. I seem to have a weak spot for silver chrome lenses...

I love threads like these. He's my setup, my entire setup after a bit of culling, so these are the ones I chose to keep...I guess they could be said to be my favourites. Also included my cameras cause this was an impromptu "family portrait" whilst tidying my camera cabinet - SL for colour, M10M for...mono. The 3 smaller lenses are my daily lenses, the Mandler ones are supplementary. During my cull I could not bear to part with the f1.

If I had to choose 1 lens as my fav (favourite of favourites) it would be the 35FLE for size and performance, though I prefer the pre-FLE bokeh (and 28lux bokeh). 50APO comes close for a "one lens to do it all" but I'm a 35mm guy. Paired with an M10-P.
