Lollo Posted May 31, 2020 Share #1 Posted May 31, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey everyone, i was looking at the limited edition M10P ASC 100 and can’t find any info regarding the material used for the body (top-bottom plate). as far as I know the Safari editions, black paint and other limited editions are made out of brass while the black and silver chrome are made of magnesium.. So my question: Anyone knows if the ASC version keeps the same body in magnesium or its made out of brass?

jaapv Posted May 31, 2020 Share #2 Posted May 31, 2020 The body is cast light metal and the top and bottom brass.
adan Posted May 31, 2020 Share #3 Posted May 31, 2020 (edited) Brass is more malleable or ductile (bends under stress) than magnesium alloy, which is stiff but more brittle (cracks). Thus magnesium alloy is a better structural material, especially for a camera, where the lens mount/image-plane/rangefinder need to be held stiffly in place for accuracy. While brass is better for the outer covers (top and bottom plates) where it can absorb impacts as dents, instead of fracturing. ALL M10s have top/bottom plates machined from brass, per Leica's technical data sheet. https://us.leica-camera.com/Photography/Leica-M/Leica-M10/Downloads Edited May 31, 2020 by adan
