I believe a new version of the M10 is coming with the same sensor as the M10 Monochrom.

I just realized that I bought my M10 in March 2018 for $6,995, and now in B&H, it's $7,795 ... It's $1,000 difference, which is fantastic. I'm just curious, what does happen with a discontinued Leica digital M in the future? With probably a new M10 version or even an M11, the M10 will still be a reference camera to buy second-hand? How does it work in terms of value for "old" digital M?
I ask because if I needed to buy another camera now for example, it would be the M10-p rather than M10.

$800...Fantastic?  Hardly, and mostly due to the US tariff situation.  Leica had to figure out a way to not increase lens prices by 25% to offset tariffs, and instead chose to increase most all product prices by about 10%  (SL2 and Q2 excluded) to spread the pain. Not something Leica would have done otherwise, and could change if tariffs are ever eliminated.

Leica prices are typically are reduced in anticipation of new product releases, not increased.  But a lot depends on specific circumstances; for instance S007 prices were first reduced significantly to reflect market conditions, but then raised significantly again before S3 release.  Of course used prices can be subject to different dynamics, depending on demand, market conditions, etc.

My fault, all number were wrong, I made a mistake righting it down. I paid it $6,895 and now it costs $7,995 ... Which is $1,100 difference. It´s a lot

But the main point is the increases are painful for buyers, and likely for Leica as well, not 'fantastic'.  And, if one is buying used. reputable dealers like Leica Miami bumped used prices by an equivalent amount at the same time Leica bumped new product prices in order to protect trade values.  So while the value of items owned might have increased, the cost to buy, new and used, has risen as well. Only good for sellers with no intention of using proceeds to buy more Leica, at least for now.

Agree! I was just trying to understand why a camera bought two years ago and almost discontinued; it now costs $1,100 more. My M10 current value is ¨fantanstic¨but I know that is not fantastic at all for all the other reasons. Let's say that two years ago, the 35 Cron Asph was about $2,800, and not it's $3.7k, which is a lot more. Which is not fantastic. Forgive my fantastic, I'm with you

Mostly tariffs this time. But Leica likely has more flexibility to raise M prices (as they often do) due to demand and an absence of direct RF competition.  The SL system, by comparison, is in a more competitive and price sensitive market segment, as the relatively low SL2 initial price, and no tariff related increase, reflects.

Like for most electronic gear, the value of used digital cameras usually drops quite rapidly first and then levels out. And the introduction of a new model also affects the price of used previous models. Digital Ms are no bigger exception, except if they are special edition collector's items. The big difference between film and digital cameras is that, at some point, spare parts will not be available anymore, which ignificantly affects the value.

It makes sense! So you are saying that if I buy for example a brand new M film camera, such as M-A ($5,200), it will keep a good value for years and years to come? Because it's a lot of money for a film camera, where you can find a used M3 or M6 for half price. I'm not a film shooter at the moment, but when it will be the time to get a Leica film camera, I'll ask to the forum a few questions 😉

or buy a used film camera, so you won't have that much depreciation :) I have bought my used a la carte MP for £2600 and I can still sell it for that price easily :)

I won't buy a brand new camera for that price, it's too much for my pocket. When it will be the time, i'm sure I'll find a good commitment for a used camera. Personally, I like M3, M4-P and M-A. My point was about how it will be the value of a M-P or M-A camera, because Leica is still being manufacturing them.

You got a very good price I guess

Well, the value of all cameras drop, but the chance that a film M becomes totally worthless because it cannot be repaired anymore is smaller. Having said that, there have been some rumours that components for the M6TTL exposure meter cannot be obtained anymore. But the camera still works because all other parts are mechanical and probably serviceable for a long time.

In any case, buying a used digital or film M is a good idea. They are meant to be used.

Yes, they can certainly be found on Ebay at 'reasonable' ;) prices.  The black M10 body I bought about a month ago - looks new (no box/paperwork) - was $4625.  Buying a brand new one was beyond what I was willing to spend but mid 4's was do-able to get back into Leica after a 15 year absence!  :)

To be fair re the price, whether known to the seller or not, the rangefinder was slightly out of calibration but thanks to info here - it was very easy and didn't take more than 15 minutes at the most to adjust it spot-on.

I've printed 20"x30" prints of image shot with my M10. The image quality is amazing with that camera's 24 max sensor.

A new M with a 47mpx sensor like that used in the SL2 could be interesting. This would allow significant cropping while still have a lot of data to produce large images. We shall see.
