I know this feeling very well. We had to put our dog to sleep a few moth ago. She was 14 years old.

As we picked her up from an animal shelter she was sick with "Staupe" and her chances to make it were 50% the vet told us.

You can imagine this was a very hard time for the family dealing with this news and I can remember myself sitting on the couch crying

with the little puppy on my lap. Now alt last she made it and become a member of the family for a long happy time.

If I get another dog, it will probably be the oldest dog at the shelter.  They don't get adopted very often.  I am still sad about Keesha.

I was picked up by "Shannon" not the other way around.  :)

Standing around she spottet me and walked straight in my direction

wanted to be petted.

On the long drive back home she sit beside me in the front of my car

in her little basket licking my hand.

Worst thing now is to find some of her toys somewere

she left and forgot it from time to time - brings back memories you know.

Are these full time fully-trained rescue dogs?

All rescue dog work in Austria is based on voluntary service (except police dogs in their secondary role behind law enforcement), but the dogs are fully trained and examined. Many of them are even certified for international SAR operations.
