Never said it was bulletproof.  The most important point concerned your point about user error; hence tripod, target and RF comparison vs LV, which is exactly what the sensor sees.  In 35 years of M use, I’ve had a calibration issue 3 times. But better to send everything in than to do sloppy testing. Many people can’t discern simple focus shift, which is common and easily accommodated.
