What is the farthest you've accidentally shot your SD card when putting it in, or taking it out?

I've now done it twice, once about 4' (1.2m) from sitting position, and once about 5' (1.5m) from standing.

If you mean expound, perhaps, two times now my fingernail has slipped off the SD card just as it clicks free, sending it flying across the room. I'm wondering if I'm the biggest klutz in M10Mworld, or Mworld even, or if anyone has launched a card off a roof or something.

So really this is all about letting us know you have an M10M! - Re:- are you a klutz! only You can answer that! Why would one stand on a roof and change an SD card?  What kind of photography do you do?   L

In a different thread a number of people recommended to never delete a file from an SD card, to consider it a roll of film, and keep it as backup. So I can then imagine someone needing to change to a new card at an odd moment. As far as being a klutz, in most things I'm not, but having done this twice while gently cradling the camera, well, I thought it was funny. This is my first Leica, I didn't know a better forum to put this in, I did consider "Discussion" but I do know that there are a lot of film users of Leica cameras, and this wouldn't be relevant there.

As far as letting anyone know that I have an M10M, I've posted over 30 images now in a bunch of different threads, so the word is already well out there.

Hey, maybe someone who doesn't wear glasses will read this and be extra careful. "You could put your eye out!"

Surely if you keep your SD cards as backup, you should check it before going out shooting!  I've been using SD cards since my first Leica Digilux Zoom (Fuji) never popped one yet.. I suppose @ 78yrs old there is still time!!   -- Stay Masked and Safe L

Why are you using a fingernail to load/unload an SD card?

Use your whole fingertip to press and release the card. It pops out - under your fingertip - about 1/4 inch. (BTW, my distance record is thus 1/4 inch. ;) )

Grab the exposed 1/4 inch with two fingertips and remove all the way, gracefully.

For loading, insert card in slot - press down with fingertip until it locks. Done and dusted.

Oh, is that how you do it?

To tell the truth, I don't know exactly what happened, the fingernail was a guess, I mean, how else do you let the card go shooting out of the camera? Maybe I've gotten programmed to touch things as little as possible these days... with the virus? It seems like I've been taking the card out multiple times a day...

So far the judges have determined that yes, it is me that's a klutz, LOL.

And I've still got the record for farthest distance!

Freestyle SDXC Memory Card ejecting could well be one of the premier events of the Leica Summer Olympics, to be held once every four years in Wetzlar.

I'm wondering if the various divisions of the competition should be based on card capacity and speed, or on which camera the competitors are using to shoot their cards.

I wonder if we could start a competition - to see how far we can launch digital media... 😎

A triathlon: running, shooting pictures, shooting media!  We need to determine the position for shooting each station: prone, kneeling, sitting, or offhand (standing).

A proud moment for all Leica owners, I'm sure. Where will the Leica Summer Olympics be held this year? With social distancing we may need to specify telephoto lenses only. Is there a Senior Leica Olympics?

When I worked in a hospital photo department, the photo studio was about 10m/33 feet long, and had a split (dutch, stable) entry door, to keep an eye on the vestibule.

If our work was caught up and things were slow, we occasionally held contests skimming empty Pakon 35mm slide mounts, like little Frisbees, from the far end through the opening.

That ended really fast the day the chief of cardiology happened to walk in and catch a slide mount on his chest. ;) Fortunately he had a great sense of humor.

So, with that experience you might be able to add a little photographic wrist action to your card release, imparting spin, and going for the LSO (Leica Summer Olympics) record!!!

I dated a woman who was in on the beginnings of computer graphics/slide production at GE, on the prototype system that eventually became Genigraphics. The mouse wasn't invented yet, she controlled the cursor with two joysticks, had switches for formatting (bold, italic, etc), saved her work to reel to reel tapes, eventually to 8" floppy disks. It took so long to redraw the screen that she and a few other testers would draw and draw and draw, and THEN hit the button to redraw the screen. And the slides they produced were primitive as anything, and sold for a fortune to companies wanting a presentation on the cutting edge. She had some great stories, like yours, of those days. She was put into the job from being a draftsman, to see if an "artist" could use a computer.

Tried with a M10 Monochrom and a Sanisk Extreme 16 GB Card: 1.75m from standing position and using the fingernail to press the card inwards (camera body not thrown).

A NEW LEADER EMERGES FROM THE PACK!

I read that Leica is going to be releasing a match-grade competition spring just in time for the LSO. Those who are serious better place their orders, it will be a special edition Olympic spring, for only $600.
