mirekti Posted May 3, 2020 Share #1 Â Posted May 3, 2020 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I wondered if one bought Leica M to SL adapter, would the camera apply some kind of "in-camera" corrections? If so, does it do it for photo and video or only video? Also, is there any comprehensive review that goes through all the video features of the camera? I downloaded the manual, but it doesn't say much. I have a tons of questions related to video, but will save this for another thread. Photoworks Posted May 4, 2020 Share #2  Posted May 4, 2020 there are many question to be asked about video. I have them too. start building a list and maybe somebody can address them. You can get the Leica M-adapter L and that will make the M lenses work with the 6bit coding correction. The camera makes quite a bit of corrections for the M lenses. Older M lenses that don't have the 6bit coding will not the correction, but you can select them manually and get at least IBIS for it. there are other adapters that can be used that don't have 6bit code reader, the camera doesn't know what lenses you are using, when selected from the menu you get the benefit of IBIS. No other correct will be applied , like distortion and vignetting. The corrections are the same for Photo and Video mode. Why should you consider M lenses for video? often the 70-100cm minimum focus is limiting. M lenses a subject to flare if a light surface is present. Apertures are clicky I still use my m lenses and with rubber gear you can get ok follow focus to work. If you doing video you have to think about audio, there is no real great audio connection like the Panasonic. Memory cards are a problem, Only the Sony TOUGH worked for me if you are shooting HLH or LOG in 4k. Every other card fails after 2-3 min.

I have Cool-Lux gears for all my old Contax-Zeiss lenses, but haven't found anything that works with tabbed lenses. Â I find that M lenses work well for video, other then the lens gear issue (which isn't an issue if you don't use a follow-focus). Flare depends on the lens, it's not necessarily worse with M lenses. I use the ZM 50 Planar precisely because it's one of the the most flare-proof lenses I've ever encountered. Most current M lenses should be almost as good. Many older lenses can flare beautifully, of course, and that's a popular artistic choice. I have built-up two sets of lenses so that I have access to either look, depending on the project. Â The "clicky" apertures are rarely a big issue. De-clicked apertures are useful for two things: exposure ramps (where you change the aperture during a shot), and matching multiple cameras. The first is rarely needed when shooting 10-bit log (you can do a small ramp in post), and the second is only an issue on very elaborate projects, or when editing "live." I guess the only common situation where it's a bother is when a shot goes from indoor to outdoor.

So I don’t have any gears installed on M lenses. This is my current video setup. What I am trying to achieve is to sacrifice the speed of focusing and framing I am used to with my M body to end up with a single body capable of doing both, video and photo, and keep the equipment to minimum i.e. SL2 + 24 Elmar + 35 FLE + 75 APO + 135 APO and single coated minolta 40mm paired with Iscorama. Two bodies are kind of killing me right now. I tried the other way around, but photo quality of S1H is nowhere near to what I get from M10. Welcome, dear visitor!
