johntobias Posted May 2, 2020 Share #1 Posted May 2, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I’ve been shooting a CL with several lenses and an x1 for point and shoot stuff, I feel I’m lugging too much stuff about , often having a full peak design everyday sling AND my CL/lens round my neck..... some points....I enjoy the spontaneity of the x1 immensely, the it is just a fair bit behind the CL I added up just how many shots I REALLY liked with the CL and it turns out that over 90% were with the little 18mm so I’ve sold off the 18-56 and 55-135 and also the x1 Im now thinking of going full frame , either M10/28mm or Q2. my needs and interest lies mostly with the Q2 but why oh why isn’t it available in chrome ??? having started off with leitz gear with an old M2 , I did like the feel of an M but I just miss focus too often to justify no AF any recommendations or advice would be greatly received. I’m just about there with the decision but really want to try a Q2 first......impossible when my nearest dealer is 200 miles away and I couldn’t claim it was an essential journey under lockdown restrictions! and again why only black for the Q2.....even titanium would be better! Bah! cheers folks, keep in and keep safe!

lykaman Posted May 2, 2020 Share #2 Posted May 2, 2020 A mixture of Cabin Fever & GAS,, why not rent! get the enjoyment of the cameras without a huge payout.. Decide after that.. L

earleygallery Posted May 2, 2020 Share #4 Posted May 2, 2020 Leica will definitely release the Q2 in chrome. It will be announced about a month after you buy a black one. 1
Leica Guy Posted May 2, 2020 Share #5 Posted May 2, 2020 I had a Q for 4 years then made the switch to the Q2. I have zero regrets. In fact a lot of joy using the Q2. I’ve been pursuing photography for over 60 years and the Q2 is by far my most favorite camera ever. I love the super sharp lens in combo with the 47MP no low pass filter sensor. Images are so so sharp. I love the weather sealing, EVF and very excellent user interface. It works very well as a system. I mainly use it for travel or walking around. It does not replace my Canon 5D3 and serious telephoto lenses that I use for wildlife, airplanes and even a little astrophotography. You likely will not be disappointed with the Q2. Good luck! I would think the experience of using a true rangefinder with manual focus would be far more cathartic than using the Q.
Mute-on Posted May 3, 2020 Share #10 Posted May 3, 2020 Since you said you miss focus too often to justify no AF, I think you answered your own question. Give yourself a reward, get the Q2 in black and just enjoy taking photos. You have certainly earned it!

jankap Posted May 3, 2020 Share #12 Posted May 3, 2020 If you are happy with the CL, stay with it. For what do you need full frame? You like WA, then rangefinder is nothing for you. If you suffer from GAS, buy a still wider lens (ev. with an adapter).

Bah! cheers folks, keep in and keep safe! I was lucky enough to find a Leica Q "Snow" available on one of the camera forums. Only 300 in the edition. (I cannot bring myself to trade it for a black Q2, silly as that sounds). I'm sure the Q2 silver version is around the corner. Good luck in your battle with the corona virus. My daughter is a first year resident physician dealing with the pandemic in one of the hospitals near Philadelphia. All of the residents have been pulled from their rotations and put on stand-by footing for the virus. So far, so good. Rob Welcome, dear visitor! bags27 Posted May 3, 2020 Share #14 Posted May 3, 2020 The Q2 is a terrific camera and if the imposed simplicity of a fixed lens is attractive then I’d buy and enjoy. But If neither autofocus nor cost is the greatest consideration, the M 28 Lux is perhaps Leica’s finest modern non-L lens, and I’d get that with an M10. Can’t lose either way!
oldwino Posted May 3, 2020 Share #15 Posted May 3, 2020 You can always switch off the auto exposure, and the Q has a nice manual focus, when you need that.

johntobias Posted May 4, 2020 Author Share #17 Posted May 4, 2020 Your advice has been most helpful everyone...with some soul searching, I have decided NOT to go rangefinder (been there with an M6, an M6TTL and an M8 in the past) I'm going with the old adage...the best camera is the one you always have with you!...the Q2 seems to fit that bill perfectly and should give me the spontenaity the X1 did but with some decent iq So it will be a Q2 just need to decide where to give my money now....why is the Leica store £300 more than Official Leica dealers?? seems odd and Dan, like yourself I've had a huge amout of photo hardware in my time, I started this journey 50 yrs ago with a Zorki and a makeshift darkroom behind a big couch after dark ! Since using Leica gear I feel I've found my 'home' and yes, it might be rubbish for wildlife etc but being honest with myself , I'm buying something that fits with what I enjoy, not something 'I'd like to try' (I can always borrow one of my kids plastic fantastic megazoom dslr's for that! again......thanks folks you talk sense !

Herr Barnack Posted May 5, 2020 Share #19 Posted May 5, 2020 (edited) @johntobias you won't be disappointed in the Q2 - it is a jewel. When you start shooting with the Q2 and see the results it produces, color won't matter. Quote why is the Leica store £300 more than Official Leica dealers?? seems odd You could ask Leica store to price match - they might be willing to do that. Or maybe meet you halfway at + £150. Failing that, B&H Photo in NYC has the Q2 in stock https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1464271-REG/leica_19050_q2_digital_camera.html Not sure if you would have to pay VAT or other fees if you bought from a U.S. based retailer, though...
