Hi David,

I hope you and your family are in good health.

I assume that you're using a IR-pass filter that will of course block all the wavelengths below about 700 nm.  Since light that's visible to us humans occurs in the 400 to 700 nm range, most if not all visible light, and therefore colours, will be blocked too.

From your picture I note some blue-ish colours so it looks like some wavelengths at the ultraviolet end (< 400 nm) may be bleeding through.  I'd guess that you're using a Wratten #89B / B+W 092 / Hoya R72 filter.

Press Set, select AW, then Manual. Point at the grass as in your picture. Then take a picture. You will have a good WB. Save it as a User Profil if you want.

Hiya Pete

All good here, Anzac Day and some gardening today.

Hoya R72...but I tooled around with the colours a bit...well a lot until I liked it, then posted and then didn't like it.

Aware of IR and the fun.  Sometimes itake pictures of wild colour fabrics and Colorchecker just tosee results with colour corrections in LR.

Thanks for that.  Yes have done so in past.  Usually just leave in Auto white balance and thenworkonthe dng file.  I'm usually happy with a tweak or so.

If you want a color IR photo would try the link I gave. It works very well in LR.

Some might not know how to take IR with M8. Here is how I do it. I use Hoya R72 and set WB on the grass (or have it in a user profile). This is how it will look in LR:

Then I swap red and blue by choosing it in the Camera Profile (as in my link):

Then I press Auto under Tone and Basic. From there it is up to yourself, but even at ISO 160 you will get artefacts very quickly.

Since M8 do not have Live View you need to take some test shots to establish where the focus should be. Somewhere between the marking of f=4 or 8 in my experience. Do not trust the IR markings on the lens. I have used 21mm and 28mm, and they need a different correction to focus.

Even if it is possible to take handhold shots with a IR filter at ISO 160, I recommend strongly closing down to 5,6 and using a tripod. Be careful with exposure, there is little margin if one wants to push it in LR.

Thanks for the colour swap preset. Yes, have seen a lot of such IR pics...some quite good.

I'm more on the pure B&W image (generally) for best IR...just like the original films i used to love.
