stevegaskin Posted April 10, 2020 Share #1 Posted April 10, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone else find that on a regular basis the SD card locks when inserting it into the camera? I find this very frustrating as if I forget to check, before fitted the base plate then the the half case then when I come to take a picture the warning that the ‘SD card is locked’ appears. I then have to go through the tedious process of removing case, baseplate, SD card etc. Sorry about the rant; maybe it’s just my SD card.

TomB_tx Posted April 10, 2020 Share #2 Posted April 10, 2020 Has not happened to me.
chevovish Posted April 10, 2020 Share #3 Posted April 10, 2020 Maybe a loose lock? I have not encountered this.

wlaidlaw Posted April 10, 2020 Share #5 Posted April 10, 2020 When I first got my SL a few years ago, I bought a number of Lexar super high speed 64GB cards, as they were on special offer at Amazon and less than half the price of the equivalent SanDisk. They worked just fine in the SL and had the high speed UHS II video facility when in SD card slot 1. However, I had the same problem with the write lock constantly being knocked into the locked position. It even happened when the cards were in the camera. The detents on the tiny slide switch were next to non-existent. My cure - a dot of super glue gel on the write lock - problem sorted for ever. andyturk Posted April 11, 2020 Share #6 Posted April 11, 2020 FWIW, there's no electronics inside an SD card to detect the position of the "lock" switch. It's just a plastic slider with two states that can be sensed by the camera via a tiny switch inside the SD card socket. If your camera is incorrectly reading the lock state, it may be a problem with the socket.

If the lock is loose then I would strongly suggest replacing the card. Or are you simply forgetting to unlock the card?
wlaidlaw Posted April 11, 2020 Share #8 Posted April 11, 2020 Lexar replaced both my 64GB cards and the replacements had an identical very floppy write lock switch, presumably with mouldings from the same worn injection mould. I had never had this problem with SanDisk cards whose switches go to the other extreme and some of them are so stiff, you can break a nail trying to move them. tobey bilek Posted April 13, 2020 Share #9 Posted April 13, 2020 Tape around the slide will keep it in position. Insert squarely into camera. Acetone and very small brush will keep it from moving forever. Mine are all fixed this way. If you knock the slide out, it is a real bear to get it back, therefore acetone. ericborgstrom Posted June 13, 2020 Share #11 Posted June 13, 2020 I glue the slide in the open position. An unwanted lock can come at an inconvenient time. /Eric
