wizard Posted May 6, 2020 Share #21 Posted May 6, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank you so much for informing us about this additional "feature" of the MATE. Yet another reason for me to never part with mine. For travel photography, this is one great lens (now further enhanced by its so far hidden macro capability). Cheers, Andy
Advertisement Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 Hi wizard, Take a look here The FOUR lenses in the MATE. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
MFT-Lehrling Posted May 7, 2020 Share #22 Posted May 7, 2020 (edited) Thank you so much for this! I got a cheap V1 (E55) Tri-Elmar this week and was just stumbling over your post. This ist fantastic, i love this lens even more now. The Tele Elmar 90/4 was(/is) on my wishlist. Hopefully i will get along with this "40mm makro" 😅. The 100mm APO (+R to M Adapter) is a bit painful to use and carry around all the time with M-Body (its a great lense, no question about that). This seems much easier to handle. The Tri-Elmar seems not realy Leica-like. You get more than you thought you would😆. Edited May 7, 2020 by MFT-Lehrling typo
MFT-Lehrling Posted May 9, 2020 Share #23 Posted May 9, 2020 I made some testings today, had a great desk for fokus-peaking. What i found out: The closest sharp distance appears to be not directly between 50-28mm, but near 28mm. (Picture 5 shows the closest distance) What i used: Body: 240, Summicron 50 V4 (Close-fcous 0,7m), Tri-Elmar V1 (Close-focus 1m, (with "Macro-mode" 0,4m?)), tri-pod Camera on Tripod, just switched the lenses out, didn't move anything. Cut the pictures all on the same height (3000). Settings: F4, 125s, closest distance possible Picture 1: Summicron 50 Picture 2: Tri-Elmar Middle (50-28) The "43" ist not realy sharp Picture 3: setting for Picture 2 Picture 4 Tri-Elmar Near 28 (50-28) The "43" appears to be a bit sharper, than above (at least on the uncompressed picture) Picture 5: setting for Picture 4 Iam still stunned by the performance of this lens. onasj Posted May 9, 2020 Author Share #26 Posted May 9, 2020 Thanks, MFT. I thought the midpoint was a good balance of close focusing distance and quality and ease of setting, but it's possible you could squeeze out an additional cm by changing the position of the focal length selector. I only did sharpness and distortion tests at the 50-28 midpoint, however.
ramarren Posted May 21, 2020 Share #27 Posted May 21, 2020 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) It would be useful if you made a photograph of a ruler dead-on stretching across the frame (and maybe a second stretching from top to bottom of the frame) at the minimum focus setting so the someone interested in the potential of this setting could know the magnification ratio it provides. Thanks! Edited May 21, 2020 by ramarren
Guest Posted May 29, 2020 Share #28 Posted May 29, 2020 You may even get much closer to an object by MATE when additional using one or two intermediate rings 16469Y between M10 and MATE. At all pictures the MATE was positioned between 50 and 28 and at the closest focusing distance of 1m as suggested above. Have a look at the following little series of nine pictures: First three pictures were taken with MATE at F4.0, the first without 16469Y, the second with one 16469Y and the third with two 16469Y. The next three pictures were taken at F8.0 and the last three pictures at F16, again with the first without 16469Y, the second with one 16469Y and the third with two 16469Y. Welcome, dear visitor! wizard Posted May 5, 2021 Share #38 Posted May 5, 2021 Am 9.5.2020 um 17:33 schrieb MFT-Lehrling: The closest sharp distance appears to be not directly between 50-28mm, but near 28mm. You seem to be correct, however, the field of view also increases (as may be gathered from your test photos above) when you position the focal length selector ring closer to the 28mm marking. So you do get closer to your subject, but you also cover a larger field of view. In my view, therefore, the mid-position offers the best compromise between close distance and (relatively) small field of view, resulting in a larger magnification factor than when the selector ring is positioned closer to the 28mm marking.
