Tea time at the bowls club

Recommended Posts

Life is pretty quiet photographically for me at the moment, mostly due to really bad weather with heavy rain which makes street photography almost impossible. This means I am continuing my journey through my archives, and this I had forgotten. It shows a typical English pastime - playing bowls. The white clothes are the standard dress for everyone, and afternoon tea is almost compulsory. English tradition at its best.

Leica M3 + 50mm Summicron f2. Ilford 400 Delta. 1997.

My granddad spent the summers playing bowls, and every night a board game with a neighbour. Occasionally I used to watch (the former) as a schoolboy but in those days – the 1950s – they didn't 'dress up', in Stroud, Glos, anyway! Nice photo.

Gerry, I wish I could have been there to have an enormous cup of tea with You! Lovely image.

Composition and tonal control are outstanding.

Reminds me I could use another cup of coffee :)

Taken at my favourite cafe today:
      Leica M240 = 35mm Summarit-M f2.5 @1600 iso. I applied a Kodachrome effect plug-in during processing in Lightroom CC.

Paris has always been a special place for street photography for me and, although I haven't been there for far too long, I try and emulate  the work of its' great photographers such as HC-B, Robert Doisneau and (dare I say) Peter Turnley. For me it is like fishing on a great trout stream in that you are always bound to have a good catch.
This was taken in 2000 using my M6 and Kodak T-Max 400 film home processed. I think it was with the 50mm Summicron lens, although I can't be 100% sure.
