Proper macro lens replaces depth of field scale for magnification scale while keeping the distance scale.
Depth of field is only real relevant for normal shots.

After 2 years with APO-Macro-TL 60 without any scale. I am please do get the magnification, distance and depth of field scales back with my APO-Macro-R 100.

I think that Elpro 52 is way easier to use than Macro-Adapter-M, because it works like a filter.

Just shot with 90/2 apo on macro adapter. Not sure i could do much better with the 90/4 macro. As for the R 60/2.8 i would have to kneel down due to its shorter reach and my wife would complain about my dirty trousers :D (Digital CL, Summicron-M 90/2 apo, Macro-Adapter-M v2, f/5.6, about 50cm subject distance, handheld).

Same combo and 100% crop. Who said that the 90/2 apo is soft at close distance?

Leica Macro Adapter works like an 18mm & 30mm tube extension.

Data are for focusing distance at 18 and 30mm adapter position and lens focused at minimum focusing distance or infinity.

Super-Elmar-M 3,4/21mm asph. @f/4

84,3 - 84,5 mm = 0,89x (1:1,1)

87,0   - 86,7 mm = 1,46x (1:0,7)

Elmar-M 3,8/24mm asph @f/4

97,4 - 98 mm

97,5 - 97,2 mm

Summicron-M 2/28mm asph. @f/4

116,0 - 117,6 mm = 0,69x (1:1,5)

112,3 - 112,1 mm = 1,11x (1:0,9)

Summicron-M 2/35mm asph. @f/4

151,4 - 156,1 mm = 0,57x (1:1,8)

140,3 - 140,8 mm = 0,91x (1:1,1)

Summilux-M 1,4/50mm asph @f/4

234,8 - 256,9 mm = 0,44x (1:2,3)

207,3 - 213,3 mm = 0,68x (1:1,5)

APO-Summicron-M 2/75mm asph @f/4

376,3 - 480,5mm

329,6 - 367,5 mm

APO-Summicron-M 2/90mm asph @f/4

497,3 - 648 mm = 0,31x (1:3,2)

422,5 - 480 mm = 0,44x (1:2,3)

For reference :

Summilux-Q 1,7/28mm asph (4mm extension)

171,3 - 256 mm = 0,26x (1:3,9)

I am too lazy to change the coma into a full stop. And I only use metrics too.

I have the Elmarit-TL 60mm f/2.8 ASPH with the CL but find it searches quite extensively when wanting to take macro images (16cm minimum focal length) On a tripod I use the self timer and when I press the shutter release it searches the focus again. Anyone with this experience and a workaround. Am I doing something wrong?

I suggest you try manual focus which I find superior in close up photography and much easier to control, especially with image magnification.. l don't possess the lens you are using,  but the principle is similar. If working with handheld camera, try rocking to and fro, to find the sharpness you seek.

I agree with David, manual focus makes macro work easier. My 4 macro lenses 3 are Nikon, a 55 f2.8 AFD, a 105 f2.8 AiS and a 200 f4 AiS, my 4th is a 1960s 40mm Makro Kilar in Canon FD mount, 40mm is really too short for easy macro work. I am tempted with the TL 60mm, but it is also a little short.
