CLA’ed and “new Dx reader/behavior— correct?

My M7 just got CLA’ed (to the tune of $750) and I find the “ISO” reading a bit confusing.

The display correctly shows the iso settings when no film inserted and while I turn on the camera.

Same goes for a 400 ISO film inserted no problem when set to DX; but when I change the setting from DX to e.g. 800 then the display flashes the 400 read from the canister.

I called Leica and the person there told me that that is the correct behavior and that the camera uses the iso setting that I selected, without showing it to me!?

Has any of you got the the new optical Dx reader installed and observed the same behavior, or is there something I have overlooked??

According to my German/English manuals it’s my understanding that the display should show the setting that I have selected, correct?

So please advise this newbie to “To the way of the M” 😊 ( long time R user)

Thanks

Preben

That is correct, and the way that it works even though it makes no sense (I do not care what is written on the film canister, only what ISO setting the meter is using!).

IMO the M7 would have been a significantly better camera without the dependency on the DX reader at all.

The flashing is supposed to tell you that the ISO that is selected does not match the DX code on the film. If it just read the selected ISO without protest, you would not be able to tell the speed of the film in the camera. Or at least not without another method. It can be useful, for example, if you shoot ISO 100 and 400 film on a regular basis, and if you do not quite remember which film you loaded in it that time. I agree with Mark that this can be confusing....but the camera will always use the film speed selected on the wheel if you chose a specific setting. If you chose DX, then it will use the DX setting of the film.
