The thread is 68 pages long in the meantime but it'll take ages to read each post 😰 📚. While I was browsing through the thread I was able to get an impression of the general IQ of L bodies and lenses whatsoever brand and mount. However, I am interested in particular in the combination of the Panasonic S1R and M Lenses. Could someone please provide a brief summary how they perform in real live from 15mm up to 50mm (compared to M10 if possible), the pros and cons etc?

Sorry, Mariel - I don’t have this combination.

Here is a shot from today:

I'll start off. I don't own the Panasonic, but I pay close attention to this thread and the specific issue. The Panny is not, alas, supposed to play well with wide M glass. Of course, M glass is made for the M body (lots of discussions of this throughout this site). Next to the M, the SL2 is nearly (not quite) as good (some smearing around the edges especially when you get wider than 35, but I generally find it acceptable). After the SL2, the SL is next. Then comes the Nikon Z (thin sensor cover). After that, nothing is supposed to be acceptable, baring a Kolari or similar modification. At least, that's the general wisdom (Sean Reid, always careful in assessments, seems to confirm). I very much like the colors coming out of the Panny, and, except for the concern about wider M glass (and maybe the wonderful Leica UI) makes me hesitant to buy one myself.

The flesh is willing but the spirit is weak. While you were writing these lines I ordered the S1R and received it yesterday. Only the body, no L lenses for now. The Novoflex M/L-adaptor was out of stock (ETA next week) so I use a URTH thingy for 30€ in the meantime which is amazingly good. The S1R is a different beast with a lot of bells and whistles, buttons and knobs and a menu setting structure which is deeper than the river Rhine. The resolution of the EVF and focus peaking is outstanding, I really like it. My M10 is sometimes challenging as my eyes won't get better in my old days. After a short stroll yesterday with the S1R I shot a couple of dozens images with the Noctilux f/1 v4. I am quite happy so far.

IBIS - not the bird though. The S5 has image stabilisation and it looks like it takes up the larger part of the body, the 'film plane' is nearer to the flange than the back. It is on by default.

Here with stabilisation tripped into use (1/3 sec, F4, 200A)

and here probably without (1/60, F2.8, 1000A)

So it does come in handy.

But I would not like it in an M camera: the body would be on steroids. & it would not fit that type of taking pictures.

Thank you very much! It is good to get some feedback, as I just recently made to decision to do more digital again after a longer period concentrating on analog photography. I really like to play around with the files from the Lumix S5 - they hold so much information and give a plethora an possibilities in post process. In the next sample I stressed a Lightroom preset I found online to change the mood in the picture dramatically. I really like the dark yet warm mood - what do you think?
