I have an M6 (.58) and Q. I tend to shoot on the wider end (35, 28, or even 24). Sadly I sold my 21 Elmarit years ago. Loved that lens. It hadn't occurred to me that the .73 finder on the M10 might be a concern. I might look into a good M9 or maybe a 242 or 262 if the .73 is not working for me. Or I might just get a 50 and see things a different way. I'm curious if any wide angle M10 shooters have opinions on this. Thanks, Mike Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I don't have years of habit using the OVF to overcome, so just switching to using the back displays for composition and focusing works well for me. I suppose the Visioflex would be an option too, I've heard decent things about the M10 Visio (typ 020). Most the the images in my Shanghai album (link!) were taking with that combination using the back to focus / compose. Welcome, dear visitor! Guest Posted January 31, 2020 Share #5 Posted January 31, 2020 the .73 finder can be a problem if you are a wide angle shooter, I too prefer wide lenses on an M and although I do have a 75mm VC 2.8 lens I rarely if ever go above 50mm. I've wished for a long time that Leica would offer a .58 finder on their digital M's even as an "Ala Carte" option, but I really don't believe that's ever going to happen and that's a shame. That .58 finder was ideal for WA users. As it is the .73 finder on the M10's is ok, but many users like myself find it impossible to see even the corners of the 28mm frame lines. I am also not a big fan of the Visoflex 020 EVF, even though I own one, what I do use though is the Leica clip-on 21-24-28mm OVF and I find that it suits my needs extremely well, so I would recommend that you check that out. I think your best option would be the EVF, if you can stand the screen quality. I am not thrilled with the idea of an EVF - I have my Q for that. Part of why I want the M10 is so I can use the excellent M rangefinder system to compose and focus. Thanks Mike It's hard to go wrong with the CV 21mm at 1/10th the price of the equivalent Summilux. It's a pretty good one too, it's the only non-Leica M-Mount lens I've kept around. A 20/21 has been the first focal length I've bought in any/every camera system since 1978. But I am also now (since 1999) in love with external window finders. "I don' need no stinkin' EVF" to use wides/superwides. Using up a Voigtlander Bessa-L (no internal RF/VF at all) with their first 15mm twenty-one years ago was so - liberating. Everything is going to be in the picture and everything is going to be sharp - so let it all count. Rather like a better-quality Diana, Holga, or Lomo. See it, snap it. https://www.cameraquest.com/voigtbl.htm Both this and another thread have reminded me just how liberating (and actually - life-changing) that was. I got an EVF 020, but I don't use it and the M10-D has no display - after a short while you get e feeling for the "frame", no problem at all. Because of the close focus limitations you can never really put a subject close enough to the camera to really emphasize it. 90% of the time I either crop in or have too much foreground on my 21mm shots. Honestly, the only thing that keeps me in the 21 game is how AMAZING the IQ is from the 21sem.
