Taken this morning, Biscayne Bay, Miami.  All I had was my M8.2 with 50, so I kept it aimed at the seagull as I gradually closed in.  I had a hair-trigger set on my finger - if the bird did anything, as fast as my reflexes allowed it, I was going to click.  I know the bird was watching me, as it kept checking me out, but I was closing I very, very slowly.  Eventually I got as close as I could, if I didn't want to risk falling into the water.  The bird did "something", I clicked the shutter, and only after I got to my computer did I notice what had happened.  Through the viewfinder, I never saw the seagull open its mount, and I'm surprised to see that the bird launched itself into the air with only one foot.  Does't seem logical to me, but then again, I'm not a seagull.  I think the seagull was still watching me, but who knows.  I took lots of shots before this one.

My bird analyst brother wrote me: "There could be many things it could be doing. It looks like it was squawking, so to speak, but about what?  Birds have an incredible vocabulary. You were an intruder into that birds world so it could have been warning others of this new, potentially dangerous, creature. It could have been responding to another bird. Birds communicate all day long."

I'm pleasantly surprised I could get this photo with an M8.2 - I probably would have selected my Nikon D750 with a long lens, given the opportunity, but it means a lot to me to be able to do something like this with the old Leica!

The quality of the entries in this thread is very high indeed. So high that I'm hesitant to contribute... but here goes. A few photos from a reportage I did.

just got my M8 a week ago, it looks and feels like it came from the show room floor at Wetzlar other than the RRS base plate. one of my first photos. I got a B&W 093 Fliter and have tried some infrared I posted in the B & W forum man this camera is fun. I like it better than the M10 I had.

Found this M8 image from 2010 in an odd folder of my computer. No note of the lens survives; perhaps it was the Zeiss 28/2.8 I had. In those days I knew nothing about camera profiles and my M8 is long since sold, so I processed it today with an M240 .dcp in Raw Therapee and Picture Window Pro 8. Not cropped here, although downsized slightly. These programs are vastly more powerful, effective, and easier to use than anything I knew about in 2010.

It is too bad the M8 sensor recorded too much infrared. Otherwise I might have kept the camera and used it for more of the past decade before getting a new camera.

Hi Charles

Such a pity forced to buy a new camera, when a simple uv-ir filter would have fixed any colour problems...🤧

I thought I'd just share a photo made with the aid of my "new" Leica SF20 flash on the M8. Talking about razor sharp!
