As the title says, I am looking at Used m10-ps For my first digital Leica. Is there anything to be weary of, or that can degrade over time in a digital body that I should be aware of?

The M10-P is a fantastic digital camera with the quietest shutter I have heard (or not heard) since analogue Leica cameras.

However, like all digital cameras it will not hold its value for long. Although Leica digital cameras hold their value better than many other cameras, time will eventually take its toll.

Leica lenses do hold their value. Leica bodies depreciate. Buy a good second hand M10-P and enjoy the experience. If you buy new you will lose 20% straight away.

take some test shots with a few different lenses,  check metering indoors and outdoors, check the rangefinder patch and window, check the battery compartment, check for any dents on the body,, check for excessive dust in the viewfinder etc...

I purchased my MP240 used from a Leica Dealer.They had sold the camera originally, knew the owner who had traded it in for the M10.

It was priced fairly and came with 90 day warranty. I have owned it just under 2 years and no problems.

I ordered a used M10-P from B&H a year ago, but ended up returning it because the rangefinder was out of vertical alignment. The issue was fixable, but I didn't want the hassle and ended up purchasing a new unit instead.

You could also check for sensor dust spots and stuck pixels. Make sure the flash hot shoe cover is present, and that the springs inside the hot shoe are working (a mounted flash should be snug).

In addition to what has already been mentioned I would check for at least the following known problems:

• Turning the ISO dial will not change ISO. This was an original M10 problem, probably already fixed before M10-P was launched. Needs to be sent to Leica to for repair.
• Horizontal line(s) on image. Leica may be able fix this by sending you customised firmware.
• Parts that have been reported to fall off, including metal piece/springs in hot shoe and finder rubber ring.

Dust on the sensor or in the finder and rangefinder misalignment (horizontal or vertical) are IMHO more maintenance issues than manufacturing problems. Some of these you may fix yourself.
