photojdoc Posted January 10, 2020 Share #1 Posted January 10, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a new CL (less than 7 days old) that suddenly wouldn’t display an image when shooting. I get a distorted image on the LCD and EVF. When I choose menu, things are fine. If I take a photo, I get the distorted image. I’ve turned it off and back on, changed batteries and SD cards and I still get the distortion. I’m guessing the sensor is bad. Has anyone seen this before? I’m waiting to hear back from Leica. earleygallery Posted January 10, 2020 Share #3 Posted January 10, 2020 Clearly faulty, return it to the dealer for an immediate replacement.
jaapv Posted January 10, 2020 Share #4 Posted January 10, 2020 Typical early electronic failure; it happens (very rarely) unfortunately. Return it and have it replaced by another camera.
photojdoc Posted January 10, 2020 Author Share #5 Posted January 10, 2020 Thanks all, that’s what I have suspected. Yes, it happens in Liveview. The menu system is just fine. I’ve contacted the Leica store I bought it from and waiting on an answer. frustrating because I was looking forward to shooting with it this weekend. I understand these things happen, but in my 45 years of photography, I’ve never had a camera fail. Hopefully Leica will deal with this quickly. ramarren Posted January 10, 2020 Share #6 Posted January 10, 2020 I empathize with the frustration. In 55 years of doing photography, I've had three new cameras fail out of the box. I can't remember which they were, at this point, but they were all highly respected brands. It happens. The Leica store you purchased from should just exchange it for another if you bought it within the week. G

Linus84 Posted January 10, 2020 Share #8 Posted January 10, 2020 Sorry to hear! As an anecdote, I’ve had the entire mount coming loose on my Sony A7 and the sensor assembly cracked on my A7S (no drop or anything). “Random” electronic failures are tough to test and to engineer away... photojdoc Posted January 10, 2020 Author Share #9 Posted January 10, 2020 The Leica Store has been very good about it. They are sending me a replacement CL and I'm shipping back the damaged one. Should have the replacement on Monday. Thanks Leica!
WeiterWinkel Posted January 11, 2020 Share #10 Posted January 11, 2020 Is the viewfinder working? You could use that over the weekend.

Can read the menus, but see the vertical lines when I compose.
