How Long Can You Leave Undeveloped Film On a Reel In a Paterson Tank?

Recommended Posts

I sometimes load film on a reel in the mornings and develop that evening.  I use Ilford HP 5 or FP 4. The ambient temperature is generally around 66 to 68 degrees F.  Will doing so noticeably degrade the quality of the film?  All responses appreciated.

I’ve never done this but I would not be worried as the tank is light tight. I would put the top on to be extra sure but that’s just me.

The only problem is forgetting the film is in the tank, and opening it sometime later. (or someone else opening the tank.) Perhaps a sticker on the tank is a good idea at my age...

Don't think there will be problems. I often put in the film during the evening / night, because I'm not sure that my my bathroom door is 100 % light tight, and so I feel safer. Usually I develop the film not later than the next day, but it also happened that something came up and I didn't have time to develop the film subsequently. The longest time that I have left the film in the tank before development was one week - no problems!
