Thankfully Leica customer service is some of the best in the business.  Unfortunately, Leica factory QC has taken a turn for the worse.  I’ve had 2 different 50 APO SL lenses with issues, one had a piece of weather sealing missing 3-4mm long (looked like it was gouged out), and the second had a nick to the front element that looked like a coating imperfection.  Luckily Leica took care of both free of charge.

I’ve also had 2 different m10-p’s come from the factory brand new with out of focus rangefinder calibration (had to send to DAG for repair).  They were about 5cm front focusing at 3-4m.

Ive also had a 50 APO M mount come from the factory with aperture rings not opening all the way at f2.  It made bokeh balls look cut-off or flat on one side.  Leica fixed this promptly.

leica took care of all these things without issue though.  Even gave me their head tech’s number to discuss.  Very professional and he even took 15 minutes to explain about rangefinders and digital vs. film tolerances.

Hand made and hand assembled items will always have some issue, even at this price point.  It’s the cost of doing business with Leica, and I’m willing to pay it for the experience of using a rangefinder and the resulting effects to my photography.  There are cameras available with more megapixels, faster AF, etc., but none give you the feeling of shooting an m10 loaded with a 30 year old 75 Summilux or a 50+ year old 35 Summicron.
