David Craig Posted January 1, 2020 Share #1 Posted January 1, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Please may I have some feedback on the following: 1. Does the Leica M10 thumb support (24014) reduce accidental pressing of the 'Directional Pad and Centre Button' on the M10-P? 2. Does this accessory damage the accessory shoe causing either looseness or tightness as reported elsewhere on this forum? Many thanks and HNY
Advertisement Posted January 1, 2020 Posted January 1, 2020 Hi David Craig, Take a look here Leica M10 Thumb Support (24014). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted January 1, 2020 Share #2 Posted January 1, 2020 In the past there have been a few reports of hot shoes working loose using this type of thumb support.
albertknappmd Posted January 1, 2020 Share #3 Posted January 1, 2020 (edited) I have used the thumb support and the key is NOT to force it in.. Really steadies the camera. Rob L Posted January 1, 2020 Share #4 Posted January 1, 2020 I like mine. Fit is good and they ride against the camera body and the built in thumb support on the body itself, such that they are very stable on the camera with no play. I have no concerns about mine either stretching or wearing the hot shoe.
sutlore Posted January 1, 2020 Share #5 Posted January 1, 2020 I also prefer using the thumb grip than not using it. It helps me to grab the camera more confidentally. I have never taken it off the hot shoe since I have bought the camera.
farnz Posted January 1, 2020 Share #6 Posted January 1, 2020 I've used mine with my M10 since buying it and the hot shoe shows no signs of stress and the thumb grip is very stable. I don't recall accidentally pressing the directional pad etc either with or without the thumb grip in place. The only minor irritant is that it occupies the hot shoe so needs to be removed when shooting in the studio or with the Visoflex 020. lanetomlane Posted January 1, 2020 Share #7 Posted January 1, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've never tried the thumb support on my own cameras, but have handled other peoples' cameras with them on. I like the Leica Hand Grip, especially the one for the M10 and so haven't considered one. Like Pete, I don't recall accidentally pressing the direction pad either with, or without the grip on. Cheers, Tom
james.liam Posted January 1, 2020 Share #8 Posted January 1, 2020 I use the Match Technical Thumbs-Up. The curve for the thumb is more gradual than Leica's and IMHO, more natural. Fits snuggly into the hot shoe. Very comfortable and at 1/2 the price of the Leica 24014
lawman Posted January 2, 2020 Share #9 Posted January 2, 2020 I use the Thumbie on all M cameras - it doesn’t use the accessory shoe so it can stay on the camera always. Attaches with removable tape and may only come loose in very extreme weather- highly recommended- see many discussions on other postings 🤗
erniethemilk Posted January 2, 2020 Share #10 Posted January 2, 2020 I think it's an excellent addition to the M10. I haven't seen any undue stress from using it on the hot shoe on my M10-P and it offers very good support. I've tried using the camera without the grip and am definitely not so keen on the feel. It also integrates into the body really nicely too and feels much less add on than other thumb grips I've tried on other cameras.

albertknappmd Posted January 2, 2020 Share #13 Posted January 2, 2020 another option.. https://leicastoremiami.com/collections/thumbs-up-for-leica-m-typ-240/products/thumbs-up-ep-10s-titanium-silver?variant=4262570693 but you want M10 version
darkinners Posted January 2, 2020 Share #14 Posted January 2, 2020 I have the 24015(silver version) on my Leica M10 for 2 years and no sign off damage on the hotshoe, I cannot live without the thumb support. It makes the camera ergonomic so much better. I just got the 24014 for my black chrome M10-P as well. They are identical.
Stein K S Posted January 3, 2020 Share #15 Posted January 3, 2020 I have it, but do not use it. I actually feel very confident with the ¨regular grip¨ of a clean M body. While the thumb rest both could seem to cause some wear on the clothing I am wearing due to ¨sticking out¨ quite a bit. And I also find it to cause some discomfort when using strap (especially when over my neck) not holding the camera. Am I a ¨weirdo¨... so many in here being so pleased
lct Posted January 3, 2020 Share #16 Posted January 3, 2020 (edited) Always found digital Ms as slippery as soap bars and the CL is hardly better from this standpoint so a thumb support is mandatory for me. I find those from Match Technical perfect on M8.2 and M240 but too short on the digital CL so i use the Leica thumb support on the latter. Never got the least hot shoe problem since my first thumb support in 2011. Hot shoes working loose sound like an urban myth to me but i may be wrong. Thanks Steve Barnett <barnet@globalnet.co.uk> Steve is the maker of the Thumbie and a great guy to deal with. You can email him directly and request the color and camera Thumbie that you want and he will mail it out to you. It lets you use the EVF, flash etc and still use the thumb rest. 😀

mark r. Posted January 5, 2020 Share #19 Posted January 5, 2020 On my M10, am using the Fotodiox thumb grip for Fuji Xpro1, fits the hotshoe snugly on my recent-purchase M10, and costs $10 on amazon. Not only does this thumb-grip make using the camera easier, it prevents accidental touching of the rear wheel. It's 'very' snug and no slipping from the hot shoe. Musotographer Posted January 7, 2020 Share #20 Posted January 7, 2020 Another endorsement for Steve Barnett and his brilliant Thumbie - I wouldn’t dream of having an M camera without one. It transforms the handling of the camera without blocking up the hot shoe and I have never had a moment’s worry about it coming unstuck. Steve provides wonderful service too - it’s a no-brainer.
