Manual entry of lens data

I have an M8.2, recently purchased, and a number of old Leica lenses that I have inherited. I understand these lenses are not 6 bit coded, so the camera cannot determine which lens is being used, but I can add the lens info in Lightroom. My question is can I add the lens info in the camera menu to manually tell the camera which lens is in use? Then the camera could embed that data into the dng file. I have seen references to doing this but my menu only allows me to select lens detection ON or OFF. Thanks for any help.

Looks good, but it doesn't work for the DNG files that the M8 produces?

Suppose I could convert them to TIFF as I import them into Lightroom...

i would use it on the processed final images jpg/tiff etc..unless your idea is to add the lens data to the DNG so that LR can apply lens corrections...are the older lenses actually there in the list inside lightroom ?

in which case its better if you use ExifTool to add the metadata. quite easy to use and it will batch process the whole folder of images

for example for one of my old lenses which i use on Leica SL :

-Lens="Avenon 28mm f/3.5 M39-mount" -lensmodel="Avenon 28mm f/3.5" -FocalLength="28" -FNumber="3.5" -lensmake="Avenon 28mm f/3.5 "  *.DNG
