Don Morley Posted October 17, 2019 Share #1  Posted October 17, 2019 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Is it just me? Or do others likewise worry about the colour quality and what I also regard as the lack of tone range in just about all of the colour pictures so far posted from the new Q2. Although Q2 postings are still relatively new compared to those from the longer production run Q, I have yet to see a single Q2 picture posted showing anything like the snap and wow factor of those of this camera's predecessor. Certainly my concerns about this so far have decided me not to change from my own beloved q to a Q2.😥  Edited October 17, 2019 by Don Morley typeo
Advertisement Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 Hi Don Morley, Take a look here Poor colour gradations and tone range.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Siriusone59 Posted October 17, 2019 Share #2  Posted October 17, 2019 Don, I agree to some extent that what I see posted from the Q2 has less pop and wow than those from the Q but I think a lot of my observation is due to the shear numbers of images posted lately since the Q2 has become popular.  The photographers that posted fantastic images with the Q and have gone to the Q2 still post wonderful images but there has been a great many of "look what my new Q2 can do" images that don't quite meet the same expectations of what we saw on the forum in the later years of the Q production. I believe the original Q photos were more "selected" for their "pop and wow" than those posted now. But I certainly agree that I don't find that much of an improvement to upgrade from the Q especially if most of the viewing is here or any internet media, but it would be nice to be able to crop more and still have a good image which is the advantage I see over the Q.
Don Morley Posted October 19, 2019 Author Share #3  Posted October 19, 2019 Thanks for your thoughts but I continue to be troubled for if as you say many of the old Q users have moved on to the Q2, which I am sure is the case, then I would have expected them to have continued adding pictures to the Q2 selection on the Forum just as they had done before for the Q, and as such I would also then have expected to see some major image improvements assuming the Q2 is capable of delivering them. As I have not only not spotted any image quality improvements, and think the standards have gone down rather than up, this leaves me in much doubt about if the Q2 does actually have any image benefits over its predecessor? Don  Don, I now have a Q2 after having a Q for 3 1/2 years. I do not see any significant change in IQ between the two cameras. In fact I tend towards believing they deliver  very similar IQ except with the Q2 I can crop more aggressively. That alone gives me more flexibility and for me any way gives more keepers. The Q2 higher resolution sensor is the number one reason I upgraded because I like to print and sometimes large prints. Number two is the better weather protection. I never had a problem with my Q, but I’m used to my Canon system which I can use in the rain or in a mist and not be concerned. Third, the new battery, while way too expensive, is a big improvement. I used to have 3 Q batteries. I now carry one extra Q2 battery and I’m yet to absolutely require it. Last, but still important is the new EVF. It’s nice. I like the new Thumb Wheel button. I dislike how the thumb Wheel was moved, but I can see they had to make room for the battery. I wish I could absolutely disable video. Software. I can keep wishing. I am glad I upgraded and am enjoying the new camera.
bags27 Posted October 19, 2019 Share #5 Â Posted October 19, 2019 This is an interesting question. Unlike my very good friend Dan (Leica Guy) I originally thought I preferred the IQ of my Q to the IQ of posted Q2 photos. I thought the Q2 photos were actually overly saturated or that the skin tones looked off, or something like that. But I said at the time that I knew I'd get used to it, as one does with all digital "progress." And now, I honestly can't tell the difference anymore. What I do think might have happened--frankly speaking--is that the Q was mainly bought by more experienced photographers and that the Q2 has been wildly successful with both experienced and less experienced photographers. So, I suspect that some of the photos that may be of less quality are by photographers who are just learning how to control this camera. (By the one, someone early on made the very same observation about a "fall off" of quality posts between the 2 camera on DP Review--so you're not alone).
