My conclusion: These little sensors have achieved a quality, that is surely enough for the majority of people. I am ever again surprised by some of the pictures, although I love my analog results much more. But it is nice to have a capable instrument with me all the time.

But to give a more considered explanation: the point of a smartphone camera is not perfection of IQ, it's about the photos you can take with it when a traditional camera is too obtrusive, too intimidating or you don't have it with you. And sometimes its just about playing around with a different toy. It doesn't have to be serious.

Re farnz question about Barnack Bar - why the grid?

Incompetence essentially. Our forum member dkCambridgeshire aka 'dunk' saw the image and commented that horizontals and verticals were tilted. So I loaded an extra plug-in into my  new software, Aftershot - Pro,  which I have adopted since my stand alone version of Lightroom doesn't support my latest camera and I don't want to  pay Adobe monthly.  The plug-in works well BUT I didn't notice that the grid was carried across into the final image unless it is  switched off before export. I just didn't look at the  final image carefully. Sorry!

No problem, Mike, and thanks for the explanation - I was just curious.  It reminded me of an infamous picture taken with a Hasselblad during the moon landing when part of the grid weirdly disappeared behind an object that was on the moon.
