watch tower i can understand, but what's with the giant zipper?

Great Ravi, that you noticed it. The first time I walked in the park I didn't.

Well, it's a giant zipper....Art from Marieke Vromans, one of the quartermakers of the park. The zipper shows the connection from Tilburg with it's past, when Tilburg was one big  wool-manufactory  and other textile arts. We could make a detour from the plan by seeing the Textile Museum, when the weather is bad. It's not so far from the LocHal.

Hello, I'm interested to come as well if the meeting is open to "newbies" on the forum as well

Only problem is that I'm landing on Schiphol Friday June 12th in the morning after a trip back from Canada, so if the jet lag is really bad I might have to cancel at the last minute but I hope I can get some sleep on the plane so I'll be fresh enough the next day.

One question equipment wise, is it "forum rules" (i.e. lens or body needs to be Leica) or is it "all Leica" and non-Leica digital backs on Leica lenses are discouraged?

You're very welcome, just take something from Leica, we are not so strict in the " Brabant " part of the Netherlands. We walk a lot this day, so it will be good for your jet-lag. If you're looking for a place to stay ion the evening, the restaurant we are eating ion the evening has some rooms. See for availability:

Thanks Paulus, the physical activity will probably do me good.

And equipment wise I have an M2 that I'll bring to shoot some film, but for digital capture with Leica glass I have to rely on "backs" from another brand ;)

I live not too far across the border in Schilde, so I'm planning to drive home after dinner.

A couple of questions if I may

 - is anyone from UK thinking of going by train

- is there a suggested hotel

Thanks

If you want something in the vicinity of the route, I would suggest The Mercure Hotel in the centre. https://mercure-tilburg.nl

Another nice , elder, hotel is the Auberge du Bonheur, which lies in a lovely park ( formal King Willen II Park ) about three  kilometers from the centre. https://www.bonheurhorecagroep.nl/auberge-du-bonheur/

The same with the " education " Hotel " De Rooy Pannen" which has my sympathy for being rather nice at the inside and staf, but the surroundings are just outside the city centre. ( about two kilometers from the " Spoorpark ) . https://www.derooipannen.nl/gastenklanten-en-opdrachtgevers/hotels/tilburg

Another suggestion is above the restaurant where we have our dinner. https://deburgerij.nl/bed-breakfast/

One of the nicest locations ( also on the route  we are walking!) is a bed and breakfast at Villa de Pastorie https://www.villapastorie.nl  lying at the canal near the town harbour. Sunrises and sunsets are great there.

Of course I did not sleep in the above hotels so maybe some of our former guest has a suggestion?

Tilburg has a central station which is very good reachable by train coming from the UK. The train goes from London to Breda and from Breda it's about 15 minutes by train. ( 4 times an hour )

We are probably driving.  I booked the Auberge du Bonheur a few months back on booking.com, so it's good to see Paulus recommending it here.

The program:

In the link you’ll get an idea of what we are bound to see:

 Saturday 13 June

9:30-10:30. Nieuwlandstraat 28 Tilburg:

Meet at “ Pig and rye “ very good food and a nice place to be.

You can also buy some (lunch)bread here if you like.

The “ worstenbroodjes “ a typical southern Dutch treat are the best in the Netherlands.( No really, I’m a connaisseur )  The “pain au chocolat” is better than in France J and their pulled pork…well that’s up to the English guests to decide. Last I read, they were cited in Vogue Magazine.

11:00-12:00.

Visit the “Lochal” ( best Building of the year 2019) where one also can have a drink at 12:00 we gather at the bar. Alternative ( if you really would hate “the Centre Pompidou of the south Netherlands” could be , that some of us,  have a drink and at ( the catering in the Loc-Hal is bad so I would not recommend it) :

De Wagon , about 2 minutes walk from the LocHal. https://eetbardewagon.com/menu/

 https://www.lochal.nl

12:00- 12:30 : A small ( 400m) walk through the old Loc-repair surroundings.

Stopping for a “€ 12,- Lunch” at” “ Smeer ‘m “

“ Smeer ‘m “ ;the meaning of this Dutch frase is:

1.     “Get the hell out of here!”

2.     “Make a sandwich.”

https://smeer-m.nl

13:30

Walk from Smeer ‘m to the Willem II straat. ( Dutch King Willem II had Tilburg as his favorite residence )

https://www.brabantserfgoed.nl/page/3286/koning-willem-ii-en-tilburg

in the direction of the Tivoli/ Interpolis-park:

https://www.tilburgers.nl/tivolipark/

A walk through Tivoli and its “ better than average “ houses. Also looking at the house of a famous shoemaker:https://nl.florisvanbommel.com/nl/home

https://www.villapastorie.nl

https://www.piushaven.nl

If you take your swimming suits, you can swim in the excellent water, although it’s forbidden, nobody cares.. ( see photos in the first link above.)

15:30 walking along the canal in the direction of the centre of the town.

16:00 Have a home brewed beer at city brewery  “013” :

 https://stadsbrouwerij013.nl

16:15 Maybe have a home brewed beer at city brewery  “013” J

If you walk in the wood in the direction of "the circle" you can see : " Grotto" https://www.bonheurhorecagroep.nl/grotto/ . In the morning it's a strange photographic experience! Ask the Bonheur personell the way, it's a 2 minute walk in the wood!
