afineman Posted August 1, 2007 Share #1 Posted August 1, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone know what might cause this problem with the M8? In one night it happened 2 times to me. Both times were while shooting at 320asa 1/4sec with a flash. It looks like the sync is off, but I know that is not the case and I know that if the sync was off on this camera the line would be going the other direction. Advertisement Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Hi afineman, Take a look here Bad M8 Files, looks like off sync flash but it is not. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
punktum Posted August 1, 2007 Share #2 Posted August 1, 2007 I know, thet the M8 sensor is devided into two parts. I assume you have a sensor problem. I´d propose you to mail these images to Leica. I think this camera must go into service.
marknorton Posted August 1, 2007 Share #3 Posted August 1, 2007 This is a classic - and severe - example of the centrefold problem. The M8 sensor information is read out left and right and the two halves processed separately. The hope is that the two sides will be well matched so that you cannot see the join. In this case, the exposure is long and something has created a significant mis-match between the two sides. Did the problem occur after changing ISO? If so, it looks like the conversion electronics has been told on one side but not on the other. I think you should do some controlled tests on long exposures to see if the problem is recreateable. afineman Posted August 1, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted August 1, 2007 This happened long after I had changed ASA settings. I sent an email to my contact at Leica and I will see what they say regarding repairs. Thanks, Aaron
Guest tummydoc Posted August 1, 2007 Share #5 Posted August 1, 2007 My M8 occasionally produces a shot with the horrid green overcast but it has so far always been the entire frame and fixable in the conversion stage. Perhaps whatever general defect in the M8 that causes that phenomenon is happening only to one half of the sensor in your camera.
