Replacement eyecup for Leica SL?

Recommended Posts

Anyone know of an aftermarket replacement eyecup or workaround for the Leica SL? Mine has had its plastic innards self-destruct and is peeling away, as you can see here. Leica Store Miami didn’t know of any solution other than sending to Leica USA for repair (yuck), and they usually take forever for anything.

My Leica S eyecup tore, I sent a message to Leica (via email iirc) that was answered by a rep.  They requested my address and sent out a new eyecup, it arrived a week later.

The SL looks more involved  but Leica should be able to direct you.

Having had to repair mine with a similar issue there is definitely not a quick 'clip on' solution.

The whole eyepiece assembly will need removing and a new cupholder and eye cup fitted ..... it is attached by screws from the camera side of the assembly.

It's not clear whether the eyepiece itself is a tight push fit, screwed in, or attached from behind requiring body disassembly. I wasn't brave enough to try and find out.

I glued the broken perforated frame that holds the rubber cup back together with epoxy..... which was quite easy and successful.

Getting the rubber cup back on afterwards was impossible without some surgery as it has perforations that lock into multiple projections on the frame. The cup is clearly put on before the eyepiece is assembled as the gaps are too narrow to push the rubber through. I had to cut between the perforations in the rubber cup to get it to lock into place. It now looks ok and is secure.

Unless you are keen on experimental surgery a return to Leica will be required. I gave it a go as there was nothing to lose ..... if I failed the same bits would be replaced, whatever.

I had the same problem. I brought the SL to Wetzlar and made an appointment to pick the camera up in about two weeks time. The whole eyepiece had to be replaced.
