pebetz Posted August 1, 2007 Share #1 Posted August 1, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi again Don't know if this is a Photo Forum issue or a technical issue, sorry if I'm in the wrong place. I've had some responces to my last thread and some of you wanted more info on my experienses using R lenses. I'll make a technical note in the digital forum later. For now, here are some picts using the Macro Elmarit-R 60/2,8 with the Digilux 3. First should be noted, that this isn't just a macro lens: it's great for all-round use with superb colors, contrast and sharpness and it is not so picky with the focus as the Summicron 50/2 I've been using for some time now. The Digilux 3 handles it very well and I usually do not have to make any exposure compensations in PS afterwards. Some R-lenses tend to make the Digilux 3 underexpose. I've only had the lens for two days, so I have a limited selection to pick from. So the picts here are more sort of examples than pictures to enjoy. First three pictures of a stamp and the little man getting rescued. (I shot the stamp series at ISO 400 free-hand under low light conditions) Welcome, dear visitor! The reproduction ratio is a true 1:2, but compared to a 35 mm it is 1:1 right out of the box. Not bad with a 120 mm 2,8 that can focus from 1:1 to infinity? Next I'm adding the macro adapter reaching 1:1 magnification (2:1 compared with 35 mm) And now I put the macro combo on the 2x extender! look at him go This picture is simply to show the depth of field, just putting the camera on the ground And now some picts just walking around town with just the lens fitted: (Not out of focus, (s)he's just commin' in for landing) Thats all for now, hope it'll come to some use (thanks for the advice on how to format the thread correctly)
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Advertisement Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Hi pebetz, Take a look here Digilux 3 and old Macro Elmarit-R 60/2,8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
imnotaniceboy Posted August 1, 2007 Share #2 Posted August 1, 2007 interesting! nice pics! maybe Iwant one of those. Can you please post pics of the lens mount in the body to see the bulk? keep going!
pebetz Posted August 1, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted August 1, 2007 Hi "imnotaniceboy" Here are "the bulk series". As you can see, the Macro Elmarit 60/2.8 on itself is not bulky at all. And that alone produces a 1:1 compared to 35 mm. To get true 1:1 you have a freedom of choice: eigther you use the 2x extender and end up with a 120/5,6. Quite nice: a 240 mm equivalent that goes from 2:1 to infinity. Or you use the macro adapter and are limited to close range macro. The total combo is quite bulky, but not so heavy: the macro adapter and extender are not that heavy. Welcome, dear visitor! hi peter, good to hear and read, that working with digilux 3 and r-lenses give good results. i am still thinking over, to buy a digilux 3 or a nikon d200. this morning i went to a photo shop here in duesseldorf and the dealer gave me both cameras with different lenses to handle them for a short while. i tried it several times to find out, if it is true, that the finder of the digilux is not as bright as the one of the nikon d200. so, when i read, that you use digilux3 plus 2,8/60mmR-macro lens plus extender, did you have enough brightness in the finder to focus manually? would be nice to hear from you about working with digilux 3. greetings from duesseldorf, gerhard
kosmoskatten Posted January 12, 2008 Share #7 Posted January 12, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hej Peter, fin kombination. Jag använder Digilux 3 med Leica R60 / R90 och R180 APO, mest nöjd med 60:an för smidigheten. Gerhard: the 60 is quite easy to focus and with Leica firmware 2.0 you get focus confirmation (green dot) in the viewfinder. With longer lenses it is not as easy to achieve perfect focus but I manage - although it is not a combination suitable for action photography I am pleased to be able to use the R lenses on the Digilux. Best regards, Henrik
andybarton Posted January 12, 2008 Share #8 Posted January 12, 2008 As you say, the 60 is a fabulous all round lens. I hardly ever use my 50 on my DMR any more, since I got the 60.
stuny Posted January 13, 2008 Share #9 Posted January 13, 2008 Peter - It's almost as though we're seeing images of a love affair -- You and your D3 with 60 macro. Thank you. Very fine work, and interesting. I agree regarding the quality of the R60.
Doc Henry Posted January 13, 2008 Share #10 Posted January 13, 2008 ..".using the Macro Elmarit-R 60/2,8 with the Digilux 3" Peter Very instructive and interesting post I have taken lichen (per exemple or very little mushroom) with only my Cron 50mm + an extender and an Elpro VIa : It's good too. I have this picture but I don't know if I can post here !
andybarton Posted January 13, 2008 Share #11 Posted January 13, 2008 I have this picture but I don't know if I can post here ! Why not, if it's been shot with a Summicron?
andit Posted January 13, 2008 Share #12 Posted January 13, 2008 Hi Peter, Thanks for posting some amazing images. I particularly like the color reproduction in the buildings and the image of the drums. This series just underlines what a fine camera the Digilux 3 is indeed. Doc Henry Posted January 13, 2008 Share #13 Posted January 13, 2008 Peter and Andy Here a picture taken with a Summicron 50mm lens and with extender + Elpro We can see the folaceous(or leaf-like) thallus of the lichen with a cup (or cupula)(photo 1) the same lichen with a Cron 50mm (phot 2) Your opinion ? mampito Posted June 11, 2008 Share #14 Posted June 11, 2008 Peter, thank you for your report on the R 2,8/60mm. I just bought this lens and the Novoflex adaptor this week, and I must say that I love this lens! I got a "fairly new" one with a 39xxx number, probably from the 80s for a reasonable price. It is the first R-lens that I have touched, and I am VERY impressed by the looks, the haptics and the overall feel. It makes me want to touch and handle it ;-) Now I understand why Leica has the reputation that it enjoys. Concerning your remarks about metering, I find the R-Lenses and the Digilux 3 very weird in this regard: Often (well, during the last 2 days.. :-) ) I see a large difference in the result between metering with the viewfinder and metering with live view. Depending on the current light conditions, one or the other gives better results, but nothing to make a constant rule of. (something like "live view is always better"). Also nothing depending on aperture values. Can you share your longer experience in this regard? All the best Martin
