ho_co Posted July 31, 2007 Share #1 Posted July 31, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone know the size designation for an Allen wrench (if that is what is needed) to tighten the screws in the front part of the just-discontinued version of the Tri-Elmar 28-35-50? Does anyone know a source for the tool? Thanks! --HC
Advertisement Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Hi ho_co, Take a look here what size Allen wrench for TE 28-35-50?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marknorton Posted July 31, 2007 Share #2 Posted July 31, 2007 HC, the screws holding on the accessory carrier on my lens are slotted, not hex, just like the screws on the aperture ring itself and around the lens barrel just in front of the bayonet mount. It may be they changed to hex screws in later production. I use Facom tools and their hex drivers go down to 0.9: http://www.pro.facom.fr/CatalogueGeneral/Catalogue/PAG-CAT-05.aspx [i see that link takes you to the French language site. If you back up to facom.fr, you can select English, then Electronic Tools and Screwdriver Sets]. Alternatively, you might try micro-tools]. ho_co Posted July 31, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted July 31, 2007 Mark-- Thanks a lot; I'll check it out. In a thread on how easy it is to lose them, a poster had said these screws were hex-head; that seemed a bit unusual to me as well. I tried my smallest bladed screwdriver but was unable to get it to seat. The screws are so deeply recessed that I can only see that they're there (I think), but can't make out any details. --HC
gravastar Posted August 1, 2007 Share #4 Posted August 1, 2007 Update on this: I've just received a new coded second generation MATE (by an unusual route) and it has 3 hex screws holding the ring in front of the aperture adjustment. It looks as if the screws could be 1mm diameter or less, probably the 0.9mm Mark mentioned. The lens serial number is 39487xx. It's a replacement for an uncoded first generation lens, that one had slotted head retaining screws. Bob.
marknorton Posted August 1, 2007 Share #5 Posted August 1, 2007 Thanks Bob, looks like this was a change in the second generation lens.
ho_co Posted August 1, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted August 1, 2007 Thanks, both, for your information. I agree, those holes are small; and whatever is lurking at the bottom is smaller yet. --HC
rjrose Posted September 1, 2007 Share #7 Posted September 1, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Get the 0.7 mm hex key from Wiha Quality Tools. Wiha Professional Quality Tools Home Page I got the Metric .7 to 2 mm set, Item No. 25392 The 2 mm is also good for the rangefinder adjustment on the M8. ho_co Posted September 1, 2007 Author Share #8 Posted September 1, 2007 Thanks, Bob! The smallest I had been able to find was a 0.9 mm hex driver, but the screws looked smaller than that to me. Appreciate your taking the time to respond! --HC
frc Posted September 2, 2007 Share #9 Posted September 2, 2007 Is this lens really discontinued or are they only laking production capacity?
marknorton Posted September 2, 2007 Share #10 Posted September 2, 2007 Sad to say, it's history.
