Cronilux Posted August 4, 2019 Share #1 Posted August 4, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I dropped my M10-P today, but was lucky that I had a thread Adapter with a 1/8 black Pro Mist filter on it. The Adapter and filter are garbage. The m10p works perfectly. Welcome, dear visitor! budjames Posted August 4, 2019 Share #5 Posted August 4, 2019 Ouch! But, you got lucky. I suggest that you check the focusing through the whole range with a few difference lenses to make sure that you didn't knock the rangefinder mechanism out of calibration. When I am using the camera alone on a neck strap without a bag, I alway put the leather half case on with the LCD projector. It protects the body from the normal bumps and abrasions. jeff_m Posted August 5, 2019 Share #6 Posted August 5, 2019 You did that much damage and the rangefinder is still calibrated. You need to buy a Lotto ticket. 1
TomB_tx Posted August 5, 2019 Share #7 Posted August 5, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I’be never dropped a Leica in 50 years of using them, but did fumble my v2 35 Summicron last year. Dropped 3 feet to a wood floor, apparently without damage, but I sent it to DAG for its first ever CLA, and he noted slight separation starting. Nothing visible without disassembly. So impact can cause hidden effects.
ChicagoMatthew Posted August 5, 2019 Share #8 Posted August 5, 2019 Oh god... that sucks. The only thing I imagine could be off is the rangefinder and that’s pretty easy to check. I would send it off to be opened up unless you feel like it’s really necessary.
jaapv Posted August 5, 2019 Share #9 Posted August 5, 2019 The M240 and M10 RF mechanisms have been redesigned to be more knock-resistant.
Cronilux Posted August 5, 2019 Author Share #10 Posted August 5, 2019 (edited) I’ve tested the camera with the 24 Lux and with my 50/1 Noctilux and it’s spot on. I think the filter adapter worked as a suspension and caught most of the force. Still going to buy a lottery ticket now! 😄 Edited August 5, 2019 by Cronilux

mujk Posted August 5, 2019 Share #13 Posted August 5, 2019 I had a similar experience with my M10 the day after I purchased it back in February 2018. It fell on concrete, but luckily the plastic lens shade of the 35 Cron ASPH took the first blow and after that the camera landed mostly on the strap. So there were only practically invisible marks on two corners of the top plate. And the rangefinder was still perfectly aligned as far as I have been able to tell. So I had no reason to send it in for checking.

That explains a lot actually. Did Leica say that or did you read it somewhere?

I was packing all my families stuff, cause we were leaving Poland to drive home. The camera was laying on a tablecloth on a table. When I grabbed all the blankets we brought with use one of the knobs got tangled in that tablecloth and pulled it off the table and with it my M10-P. Viv Posted August 12, 2019 Share #19 Posted August 12, 2019 You got lucky. I totalled a Nikon DSLR AND the lens attached to it when I dropped it.
stephan54 Posted August 12, 2019 Share #20 Posted August 12, 2019 (edited) You are lucky, but I guess I was more lucky. A few days ago I lost balance on a rocky steep trail and fell backwards. The camera hit a rock and my head just missed a boulder and only sustained a cut. The M10 rangefinder is off and the 50 Summilux does not turn smoothly. So I have to finish my Japanese trip using LV with the 28 Elmarit. I am insured. Edited August 12, 2019 by stephan54
