Peter Wright Posted July 25, 2019 Share #1 Posted July 25, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am enjoying having added the CL (and 18-56) to my kit. I especially like the way it integrates with my M lenses. So it is a perfect compliment to my M system and has replaced my M43 system in that regard (almost all sold). However, i find that in use, the CL body gets quite warm. Warmer to the point of being almost hot. I have never noticed this with any of my previous EVF cameras. Is this common? Is is likely to result in a reduced life of the camera?

Dave in Wales Posted July 25, 2019 Share #2 Posted July 25, 2019 I raised a similar question when I first acquired my CL, but in half case.
wda Posted July 25, 2019 Share #3 Posted July 25, 2019 Europe is in the middle of a heatwave. An object needing to dissipate heat will take longer.

Well I live in Canada, so this should be a great camera for winter use (keep my hands warm)! 😊
lct Posted July 25, 2019 Share #5 Posted July 25, 2019 Using an half case can hardly chill digital camera anyway. Those little beasts like fresh air.
LocalHero1953 Posted July 25, 2019 Share #6 Posted July 25, 2019 Mine gets warm, occasionally to - er - perhaps a bit less than hot? I've never had an associated malfunction. My SL does as well, around the battery area.
Le Chef Posted July 26, 2019 Share #7 Posted July 26, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) The camera gets hot when I’m adjusting preferences and profiles, using the rear screen. Otherwise when using EVF it stays at a reasonable temperature.

geoffreyg Posted July 30, 2019 Share #9 Posted July 30, 2019 Gets hot under extended use. I always leave rear screen off. When it feels a bit too warm, just turn it off for 5-10 min.
JayBird Posted August 3, 2019 Share #10 Posted August 3, 2019 I have not noticed it (live in Texas). I typically turn off the camera when not actually taking pictures to save battery. That may help with the heat situation.
CatWorthy Posted August 5, 2019 Share #11 Posted August 5, 2019 Mine doesn't demonstrate any temperature issue even in the summer. I use it for stills only and it's my habit to turn off the camera unless I anticipate a shot.
Le Chef Posted August 5, 2019 Share #12 Posted August 5, 2019 Does anyone know the source of the heat? Is it processor, battery, memory card or..? What causes the heat buildup? What’s stopping the dissipation of the heat? Anyone know?

Jake Posted August 6, 2019 Share #14 Posted August 6, 2019 LOL. Here I though you were referring to it being "Hot." As in stolen. In the thread title. 😀

dfdann Posted August 7, 2019 Share #17 Posted August 7, 2019 I live in SC where temp will reach 97F today. My CL is in a Lim’s half case. It has never heated up. Dan
Peter Wright Posted August 8, 2019 Author Share #18 Posted August 8, 2019 My heating issues could be due in part to my technique: I never use the power reduction settings, have the camera set to stay switched on for long periods, including the rear screen, and never switch it off manually until I am completely finished the shoot. (I do carry extra batteries. I use the Watson batteries that are identical to the Leica battery, but a quarter of the price.) I have a baptism shoot, and then an outdoor shoot for a charity coming up shortly. So I'll see how it does then. Happily, no reliability issues so far, and I hope it stays that way. 😄
