To each eye its own, I suppose.

In a few of the photos, I find the bokeh to be jarring; it seems to depend on what elements are in the background of the image.  In most of the images, I find the bokeh to be agreeable, though.

For a 28mm I’m not sure what wide angle lens does bokeh that much better.  https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1592778/0#14887368

As I said above, it is very comparable and as smooth as the Sigma 28/1.4 Art (see link).  The sigma art line of lenses produces exceptional bokeh.  The 28mm Art is the latest and greatest of the art line.  It could be a gold standard in bokeh.

Only Sony’s 24 GM can best the 28 Art and thus the 28 Lux.  I’m not sure how much smoother bokeh you think a 28mm can create.

This is comparing apples with oranges but okay, the bokeh is great. Talking about less fast lenses, I’m curious how the Elmarit 24 would handle this scene.

Opened in Preview from DNGs and exported as JPEGs. Not touched. Polarizing filter used.

Less compressed JPEGs here: https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-8n9f5D/

It’s not too far off in perspective the 24GM and 28 Lux.  But you are right it’s different.  I’m an avid Leica user, but keep a Sony for chasing my son and family events “run and gun”.  The GM line is completely surprising in that the bokeh is so smooth, no harsh outlines or double images.  The 24 GM i use in place of my 28 Lux when I need Auto focus.  The 28 Art too I’ll interchange, which has also incredible rendering and IQ, but it’s huge.

It’s been said, though, that Sony figured out how to leave some spherical aberrations in then out of focus areas while keep in focus tack sharp.  I believe it.

They are approaching lens design like Leica always has, with an eye on more than just resolution (microcontrast or whatever sharpness quotient) but also on rendering, bokeh, colors, etc.

I somehow like how Preview renders the M10-P DNGs with this lens. This one was exported from Preview as TIFF and processed in LR.

Nice, looks like a useful lens for environmental portraits and not a one trick pony like the Noctilux.

I wouldn't call the Noctilux a one trick pony.  I used my f/1.0 Noctilux as an all-around 50mm lens for a little over three years until I got my recently acquired 50/2.4 Summarit.

it is not a one trick pony for sure and it looks beautiful stepped down as well. However not a walk around lens either so for your mental sanity you need to match it with another. From my humble PoV the same applies to the 28 Lux which I love but would not necessarily always take with me, especially when I need/want to go light. It is good to have alternatives in both 28 and 50 mm as well as 35mm for those who like that focal length too

One of my favorite wide open shots - nice example for outstanding optics.
