The first decade or so of digital cameras was marked by continual – and demonstrable - improvements in performance with the result that models became redundant within a few years of being launched. That’s no so anymore. Some folks here would like to see a new M model with more than the M10’s 24 megapixels (personally I’m quite happy with 24 megapixels, which I believe already provides higher resolution than a 35mm film camera). The battery capacity could be better but all told I don’t see any reason to ditch what, in my opinion, is a near perfect digital rangefinder – losing $/£ in the process - for the few ‘improvements’ that a new model is likely to offer over an M10 or M10-P. Indeed, through the last decades of the previous century film cameras went through a similar process of evolution with all sorts of automated features being offered but this didn't prevent many pros from sticking to their M3s and Nikon Fs.

Fully agree. Most of the additions / “enhancements” folks talk about make it less desirable to me. The M10 hit my sweet-spot exactly. (OK, the quieter shutter would be nice, but not worth the upgrade cost.) I don’t see any upgrades or new models in my future.

At this stage I'd rather spend my money on another lens than a new camera...

Clever chap, easy to hide a new lens..(Unbox it in the garage, snap onto the camera) the perfect crime 🕺

I am fortunate that my wife has become camera-blind as evinced by her lack of response to whatever newly created arises from my workshop, but also because all my M cameras 'look alike' to her.

My wife may well be camera & equipment blind, but somehow she know when new stuff arrives..  L

Buy chrome--the retro look screams 'used' (and therefore 'cheap').  😶

My wife loves the Sony RX100IV that I bought her a few years ago. She takes most of the family and event photos with it. I have the "serious" cameras, Leica M10 and Fuji XT3.

We travel a lot. We are leaving to 2 weeks in Scotland and Ireland next month. When we get back, my wife will create a great book as she does for each of our vacations. She is very engaged in our photography "lifestyle". I've been to 54 countries so far.

She never questions my gear upgrades over the years as I am a responsible spender. Fortunately, my partnership in a wealth management practices provides the resources to enjoy travel and fine photographic gear. Life is good!

It sounds like a preamble to convince yourself not to buy a new Leica!

My gear is mostly film but I have some Canon digital bodies, the 'best' of which is a 5D - the original 12.8MP model. This camera was used by many Pro photographers, an awful lot of press, editorial and wedding photos were taken with 5D's. People were more than happy with the results then so why shouldn't it continue to be a viable tool today? (until it packs up one day then I'll upgrade).

We need to remember that the camera manufacturers have to keep selling new cameras to survive, and they need something to convince existing users to trade up. A tweak here and there, a new mode, more MP's. You may not need any of that stuff but it's enough to make many people feel dissatisfied with having the old model and that they're missing out. There's enough evidence of that on here whenever a new model is released!

Canon have produced around 50 EOS Digital cameras since 2005 (I have a couple plus one of the last EOS film cameras) that averages out to over 3.5 new models per year. Food for thought.

Sir, I would have Messaged You, but I thought this way would be better. I am sure like many others here we are happy for your success and all the associate goodies that go with same. Sadly some on this Forum are Not so lucky at this time, it might be financial, medical or even something else, so why not just stick to the photographic and not the "I've Been To" etc. etc. etc.. Empty Vessels Make The Most Noise.. -  L

I like to celebrate the success of individuals, not insult them. However, I apologize if you find my comments offensive, but I think it's your issue.

Whether camera manufacturers need to keep selling new product is not my problem. Besides a new model isn't necessarily 'better' than an existing model. The M10 suits my needs and I don't see much room for improvement - aside from a longer battery life, which I mentioned in my original post. I might be persuaded to buy Monocrom M10 though...
