Hi Rob,

The 7a 55/1.4 L mount has been tossed around here a couple of times.  Here's a thread that includes some images from it on the CL -

. . . David

Thanks I saw this but the question was "why is the price so low?" also I thought this is a newer version because the article was posted in June and the topic is from may

I have a 55 f1.4 7A not a bad lens, I can put up my picture of the capital but looks very similar to the one posted. Mine has a bus in front. for $149 enjoy it, big disadvantage is there are no click stops on the f stop ring and no f11 on the ring. The results are good but a little CA if you pixel peep.

Hi Rob7P, about 7a price. The lenses are so cheap for these main reasons:

1) they copy the constructive scheme of vintage famous lenses, that means the lenses are not built from scratch but only re-adapted to the new camera

2) materials: you are not Buying leica or zeiss crystal, it is just synthetic cheap Chinese glass

3)treatment on lenses. Coating....ok  which coating could you expect from a 150usd lens?

They can be in my opinion  funny lenses to play with, but don't expect anything professional..I suggest to invest on some vintage lenses if you want something cheaper new leica lenses if you don't want just a bottle glass toy.

Little OT : if you are interested in something "artistic" and historically talking  "realistic" LOMO produce  a special lens  for leica M series with lens minitar 32 f.2.8 quite expensive but  much more funny to use.

  • 2 weeks later...

I bought this lens because it’s cheap, like “what do I have to lose?” It’s actually really good for the price. I was a little shocked. But, it does not work well with focus peaking like the m lenses. Also the color can be completely off. I have not used it much since I bought the 35mm TL. A sample picture from my IG
