I recently purchased a Leica 75mm Noctilux f/1.25 lens.  On page EN (English) 23 of the lens' Instruction Manual there are recommendations that when shooting an M-series camera with the 75mm Noctilux installed that the photographer support the lens with one hand UNDER the lens - as if the M body were not strong enough to support the lens on its own.  I find it very awkward to shoot with one hand under the lens and one hand on the M body.  Is the weight of the 75mm Noctilux TOO heavy for the mounting flange if my M10?  How concerned should I be?

It is normal! It has nothing to do with the strength of the mount but is necessary for a stable held of the camera with such a heavy lens. If you would be accustomes with shooting with a tele lens you would not wonder. Support the lens under the focusing ring, put the camerabody on your right hand clench an press the camea lens combination slightly against your forehead - this will be the most stable hnadling of the camera, avoiding blurred photos as good as possible.

Let's put it this way. Since the 75 has no focusing tab for easy, one-finger focusing - how exactly were you planning to hold it while focusing?

Answer - hand under the lens. (See my avatar, with 550g 135mm <<<<<<<)

Just leave your hand there as you press the shutter button.

I would recommend that with any body that the 75Nocti is attached to. Also with the SL for instance, which is quite a heavy counterweight btw, but still. It’s just normal photography above a certain length of the lens

No, US product liability law requires idiot-proof warnings. That’s what this is. The combo is front-heavy and someone might sue Leica for blurry pictures due to unnecessary camera shake otherwise. It’s in the same category as the ‘Remove child before folding’ label on US strollers.

Europe as well, such as the notice on a coffee cup that "contents may be hot".

You're in good company. Use the lens at F16 and everything will be sharp!
