woodda Posted July 29, 2007 Share #1 Posted July 29, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Anybody know why Lecia decided only to populate with its six bit coding the "flocal length" metadata and not the "lense" metatdata field aswell. It seems a shame as I thought they where working with Adobe. The upshot is you cannot use the metadata browser in Lightroom on "lense". Is this going to change
Advertisement Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 Hi woodda, Take a look here Lighroom_ M8 Lense metadata not available. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mreddington Posted July 29, 2007 Share #2 Posted July 29, 2007 I noticed this as well and it's a pity. One complication would be if you have several lenses all with the same focal length from different manufacturers, all coded as the same lens. This wouldn't give you much more useful information than just the focal length. But somehow I doubt this entered Leica's reasoning! I would also like to have lens recognition to be able to select by lens even with the above caveat) using the LR metadata browser.
woodda Posted July 29, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted July 29, 2007 Mr Reid, Being in the know do you know if this can be made to happen. I cannot be hard. Could the F stop also be added to the lense data as other do
mreddington Posted July 29, 2007 Share #4 Posted July 29, 2007 Darrell, I'm not Sean Reid but this has been asked before and the answer is that the F-stop can't be added since there is no electrical connection between the lens and the camera as there is on most DSLRs. Therefore there is no feedback on the F-stop setting. The only information that could conceivably be included in the Exif data is what is available through the coding. Actually, the M8 does have a light level sensor in the body that is used to estimate the aperture. But it's an estimate only. Opinion vary as to how accurate it might be be - most guesses are in the 1-2 f-stop range. It would be a a lot better with wide angles than long lenses. woodda Posted July 29, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted July 29, 2007 Thanks. I was referring to the static data e,g 35 F2 Asp under "lense"

stephan_w Posted July 29, 2007 Share #9 Posted July 29, 2007 I noticed this also, maybe we can hope for a new firmware update. But for me it would also be useful if at least it would be possible to edit the Exif-File in lightroom, so I can add the lens data manually. This will be great also as you can make search in LR to find photos of specific lenses.
