Advertisement Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 Hi AnikiMu, Take a look here Two Issues with the Leica Q2: Dust in EVF and Banding. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
frame-it Posted June 25, 2019 Share #2 Posted June 25, 2019 "I didn’t see the problem on my Nikon Z7 at the same shutter speeds, but I also wasn’t shooting with the Nikon during the exact same scenes and lighting conditions." hilarious.
Colourise Posted June 25, 2019 Share #3 Posted June 25, 2019 I’m not sure what point the writer of the article is making. I believe that banding, using an electronic shutter under artificial lighting, is well documented and it would appear that the Q2 is no different. Also using a “shutter speed” of 1/3200 and an ISO setting of 3200 seems to me to be rather high even for freezing motion.
jaapv Posted June 25, 2019 Share #4 Posted June 25, 2019 So what is new? An (electronic) shutter gives banding with discontinuous LED lighting at certain shutter speeds... That has been known for years. Stroboscopic lighting and photography is ancient. I think the author would be well advised to read up on basic photographic technique. http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/wedding-event-videography-techniques/528281-led-lighting-causing-banding-a7s-new-venues.html

The writer of the article https://petapixel.com/2019/06/19/two-issues-i-had-with-the-leica-q2-in-the-1st-month-dust-and-banding/ seems not to to fully understand this and suggests in his article that the issue is either "specific to the sensor design" or a "manufacturing defect" or "a lighting condition that is nothing to do with the camera" (He appears to be covering all bases) As far as I am concerned it is a non issue. I am very happy with my Q2
RMT52 Posted June 27, 2019 Share #6 Posted June 27, 2019 wouldn't the banding issue be resolved by just using the mechanical shutter and switching the electronic shutter off in the options menu?
jaapv Posted June 27, 2019 Share #7 Posted June 27, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) It would probably at least be mitigated. It is just a matter of a bit of experimenting to find a shutter speed that is artefact-free.
Overgaard Posted June 27, 2019 Share #8 Posted June 27, 2019 Yes, that a bit of a sensational article. I added a chapter in my Leica Q2 article here about "Flickering from blinking light sources" and "Banding from blinking light sources" https://www.overgaard.dk/Leica-Q2-digital-rangefinder-Page-2.html Go the the part Possible Errors on the Leica Q2 Welcome, dear visitor!
