rsolomon Posted July 28, 2007 Share #1 Posted July 28, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) My question is really directed to those who saw firmware V1.1 and V1.2 as "faulty". While the items mentioned as bugs in V1.3 are bugs, i have to say overall there is significant improvement with 1.3 from my perspective.... just curious is anyone holding back on running V1.3 because of whats been mentioned? Again my question is really directed to those who saw 1.1 and 1.2 as "faulty". I know from many earlier threads there is a subset of folks happy and fully content with V1.1 and/or V1.2, therefore i would not expect them to move to V 1.3 anyway ,
Advertisement Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Hi rsolomon, Take a look here DMR Firmware V1.3 loaded and running. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mgcd Posted July 29, 2007 Share #2 Posted July 29, 2007 I loaded Firmare version 1.3 from day 1. Since I'm on vacation however no serious testing has taken place but so far I don't consider anything that has been mentioned as bugs as either serious or bugs at all, but that's my take on it. Cheers,
ns_ng Posted July 29, 2007 Share #3 Posted July 29, 2007 Hi, I upgraded to firmware 1.3. IMHO, the bugs are minor and there are improvements to the previous versions. I am keeping to V1.3. N.S.
bono0272 Posted July 29, 2007 Share #4 Posted July 29, 2007 I was in biz trip last week so I just loaded the V1.3 last night and tested a few shots this morning, under florescent light, tungsten light and sunlight WB, and also the AWB as well. I would say, according to my experience on V1.1 and V1.2, V1.3 has great improvements on WB settings, I got exactly the correct colors if I manually set the WB (to either florescent, tungsten or sunlight options). Even the AWB performance has been improved, it can produce almost 95% correct WB pictures if there is only one light source, only a little bit 'cold' while I tested under combination of florescent and sunlight. And, I didn't find any problems as per the other threads about the bugs. Will test again. I will test some more shots but up till this moment I am happy with what Leica has done on the V1.3 improvement, it is worth to wait more than one year after the V1.2 launching, although from a customer's point of view I do expect this V1.3 can come much earlier. Anyway, as what R Solomon mentioned in another thread, Leica commits its promise (although not officially announced) on the DMR firmware upgrade, and I am going to expect the coming more powerful and reliable R10. Jamie Roberts Posted July 29, 2007 Share #5 Posted July 29, 2007 I just shot my first wedding since upgrading to 1.3. It's staying on the camera--it fixes numerous little annoyances and the overall experience seems much improved!
Guest rubidium Posted July 30, 2007 Share #6 Posted July 30, 2007 I installed 1.3 as soon as it came out, and have done a lot of shooting and button-pushing since. Overall, I'm very statisfied with the fixes and have no reason to revert back to previous versions. My confidence in Leica has also been bolstered. I now feel that the DMR is more of the "finished product" that I had hoped to get in the first place. I might even be inspired to buy another lens before the year is out ... rsolomon Posted July 30, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted July 30, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) .... i hope leica sees the beneifts of the firmware upgrade in that many of us "re-investing" not to mention the positive "word of mouth" that happening all over the world related to this. i know it seems silly in some respect that firmware would have such an impact.... but it does make the users feel important to the company, it makes the user feel that leica is looking to make my experience with their equipment better, easier, and higher quality. so to all that are responisble at leica for producing quality -- thanks ! and i hope you see your efforts come back doubled in new product sales ! btw: looking at a new 19mm/2.8 now. dhsimmonds Posted July 30, 2007 Share #8 Posted July 30, 2007 I shot with v-1.3 at an event last Saturday. It was a very changeable day, sunny one minute and cloudy the next but I tried auto WB setting all day. When I developed the raw images with C-1, instead of having to play around with the white balance slider, the WB was absolutely spot on for 106 out of 109 images. The odd three were taken under a coloured canopy throwing a reddish colour cast, easily sorted by C-1. My usual check in C-1 is to check the auto white balance and nothing happened to the images because they didn't need any correction! Wonderful! All the exposures are also on or very close and the colours are looking stunning. It is like using a new camera that is familiar! I shall stay with v-1.3 and I think that Leica were right to have the confidence and courage of their convictions to remove the earlier firmware versions from their web site. Leica now have a digital reflex camera to be proud of and I feel sorry for those digital users who have prematurely got out of the DMR and R system prematurely. bono0272 Posted July 31, 2007 Share #9 Posted July 31, 2007 I also took some shots at home by using AWB and I didn't need to further calibrate the WB by C1 as well. My wife now says nothing about her Canon 350D has better AWB ability than my "expensive" Leica DMR. I believe Leica did test a lot on this new V1.3 firmware so it is pretty confident to remove v1.1 and V1.2 from the download site.
