Basically roadless, camels were the only means of cross country transportation for goods and people. Beginning in 1970 a highway/road was constructed and the new system facilitated trucks to replace the camels which were just let go into the desert. A bit ironic my photo was taken from one of the vehicles that replaced the wondering camels. Even today there are few cars in this part of Oman. Welcome, dear visitor!
