It actually looks amazing, I dont have enough for a lux but would defineltly put a 35cron in silver :D

A silver Biogon 35-C will do as well for 1/7th the price of the Summilux and 1/3rd that of the Summicron. I'll post mine when the Safari arrives from PopFlash in LA.

Perhaps, but it is nearly as sharp as the Summilux by f/2.8. And small.

Did I mention small? 😎

Things are what they are.

That 35 C Biogon may be f/2.8 but it resolves higher than the Summicron and gives the Summilux, ZM 1,4/35 a run for its money.

Yes but as I’m a bokeh whore it’s a little hard to go 2.8, my current canon set up is a 1.2 and a 1.4 ... if I’m gonna leave that life behind I need an f2 or I’ll feel sick haha but to be fair I would be open to a good 28mm with smaller aperture if you have any tips

28mm, at Leica they hear you and offer f/1.4 , F/2.0, F/2.8 even f/5.6 ( Summaron variety that you can see some pictures and discussions, in this thread )

The 28mm Elmarit-M asph. is the light alternative to other 28mm and results are as good as can be a "good 28mm".

My favorite is the genius Summaron-M 28 that can give some excellent pleasing pictures if in good use.

Hey guys,

I'm new here so im gonna introduce myself.

My first Leica was a M4-p that was defective and has this unique light spot that forms on film. The whole experience of shooting this camera has brought me here, in a 3 year long obsession with digital leica and the need to own one. I finally have the opportunity to buy an M10 but I need your help.

I will buy used because I cant afford new.

Option 1: M10 Silver (used a couple of scratches on the screen and a little dent on the side), with the money left i can buy a Cron 50mm asph not coded, and a cron 35mm asph v2. (8500 euros)

Option 2: M10-p Safari Bundle with lens 1000shots.  This is from a private owner that wants to sell his to buy an  even more limited MP. On top of this I would add a 35mm cron asph v2. (9800 euros)

My budget is 9000 so i dont know if going above my budget for the safari is worth it. I'm scared I will get bored of the colour, and or will gather to much attention when walking around, more than the silver?

Does anyone have any advice other than follow your heart? :p The seller sent me pictures of the safari but it looks very green rather than olive, he shot the image indoors with white/bluish light so i dont know if that also affected the colour. Do any of you have pictures of it being used in the wild?

Thank you in advance and I cant wait to talk to all of you :)

The dent on the side of the silver M10 would concern me - the camera could have a rangefinder that is now out of alignment and would require recalibration, a $300 USD cost if Leica NJ does the work (probably a similar cost if done by the Leica folk in Wetzlar).  Additionally, the dent will cost you at minimum 500 euros or more in trade in value down the road, which makes it not such a good deal after all.

A M10-P Safari with 1000 shots is for all intents and purposes a new camera; I would definitely choose that camera, even if it is 800 euros over your budget (if the extra cost is not a major inconvenience).  In the long haul, the M10P Safari is a better deal IMHO.

Regarding the olive green color - I have had an M240P Safari set for five years now, and have never regretted my choice.  I have found that the color of an M camera really does not matter; the vast majority of people on the street don't care about your camera.  Only other Leica owners and fans will notice your M camera and will stop to talk to you about it and that's not many people at all; perhaps 1 or 2 out of 5000 or maybe even fewer.  Nowadays, the masses are more interested in what cell phone you have.

If you like the olive green color, get the M10P Safari.  Leica has gone to great lengths to make certain that the olive green color of these cameras have continuity - there are no variations of the olive green that I have ever seen.  The different shades of olive you are seeing in photographs is due to inaccurate white balance on the part of the person photographing the camera, or is due to a monitor that is out of calibration - or a combination of the two.

Oh, here's another one. Safari usually holds a very good price second-hand if you can let it go. They brass rather easily almost as if the paint is powder. So it will not (at all) be looking like new and unused after some weeks of months. A silver stay like new for a long time. Black also gets to look well-used after a while.

Herr Barnack, thank you for having taken the time. Everything you have said it’s true and I didn’t even think of the range finder being impacted from the bump.

Its trye that the safari will always be more special and in the long run it’s how it makes me feel and not the extra thousand I could have made! So thank you for confirming that I’m making the right choice :)

Overgaard: It is indeed beautiful, loving your set up, beautiful combinatation with that safari hood. I always found brassed Leicas much better looking than new ones, but will that impact the resell value in the long run?

Also do you know if the safari summicron is as prone to brassing as the camera body?

Hey guys sorry for the late post.

I just wanted to let you know that I got my safari last Saturday, and i have to say, you guys were right. The chrome is beautiful but the safari is just breathtaking. I met this guy shooting with an M2, even though they are not the same camera ... I knew i made the right choice ;)

I cant seem to upload an Iphone pic cause its more than 0,49mb (surprisingly), https://we.tl/t-xy1oS8HDQH so here you go enjoy the most beautiful camera under an avocado tree!

Once again thank you all for your help and advice. Now the research will begin if to get the 35mm summicron asph or the voigtlander 35mm asph!

Best regards all and see you on the other posts

I sold my black M10-P to get an M10-P Safari. If it's shallow to change a camera purely for its color then I'm guilty but you only live once, so follow your heart!

I had done the same too. Although it was a painful upgrade (money wise), after the box arrived and a few minutes of unboxing it was all worth it 🤩

Recently purchased an M10-P Safari when I was in Wetzlar.  Wanted one in black, I tend to go for those. But they didn't have one "ready" till several hours later in the day!  I went with the Safari and wont look back! It's a really nice upgrade from the M9-P.  Nearly silent shutter!

I've had my safari for now nearly 4 months and I have no regrets, I bought it a little Luigi's case with grip, extra battery and a visoflex, as well as a 35 cron asph v2 in chrome and i can never go back.

Suprisngly enough in Paris nearly no one knows Leica so i dont get to much attention, but the green definitely makes it feel more special to me!

It was Thorsten that said "For me it's a work tool and I have had so many that I dont wake up any more saying - wow, I own a leica"  ---- For me it's the opposite I look at my safari and it makes me happy. So to all Safari owners ... We picked well ;)
