You may rest assured that I am most definitely not guilt ridden. Whatever imagined crimes those post-war Westies who are guilt ridden are guilt ridden about, I am innocent of committing. You see, I did not arrive on the scene until August of 1957 and was unable to commit any sort of crime for many years thereafter due to the innocence of childhood. I will however admit that the years of my misspent youth are another matter altogether. 😎 Edited June 25, 2019 by Herr Barnack

If the Noctilux starts to feel too heavy, one can always mount the APO 50 Summicron-M ("Qu'ils mangent de la brioche" 😂). The nocti felt heavy, so swapped it to APO. When I used it, I was ok with the weight - but it wasn’t getting the use. So weight had the effect of leaving the lens on the shelf. Will most likely miss the 0.95 at some point, but not that often. From 2.0 onwards, I don’t care if nocti is just as good - I didn’t change it to get better IQ. I had zero complaints about noctis performance, it was just perfect for me. I could have also swapped to summilux, but that wasn’t financially sensible. There was no way of doing it, without significant monetary loss. With this swap, my 2.5 years ownership of the nocti cost me roughly 50€/month. I may or may not add summilux to my lenses at some point, but most likely not. If I do, it’ll be a hard choice between last pre-asph and current asph as both have their virtues. Currently I’d probably get the pre-asph. Only time will tell, wether this swap made sense. Just about to embark on a month long trip to Spain. I’ll know more after that. And I always carry my gear in a light weight shoulder bag (bare bones bag evolution) and have a wrist strap on the camera.

jlindstrom Posted June 26, 2019 Share #174 Posted June 26, 2019 This is where I ended up after letting go of the Noctilux. The whole setup now weights less combined, than M10 + Nocti. It's now a neat & light weight travel package. But it's always a very personal choice and I'm sure you'll be happy with yours, which naturally is the only thing that matters. From the very little testing I've had time to do with the APO, it's incredibly sharp. Welcome, dear visitor! Chaemono Posted June 26, 2019 Share #180 Posted June 26, 2019 One effect both lenses, the Noctilux and the APO, share wide open is that the center is very bright. Part of it is vignetting, but another part is that the light is concentrated at the point of focus in the center. I’ve seen this effect with the 50 Summilux-SL as well. The interesting thing is that while the APO and the 50 Summilux-SL maintain it as they are stopped down, the Noctilux loses it at f/1.4 already. Again, it’s not vignetting. One can look at the RAW files I posted earlier in this thread.
