Dopaco Posted June 4, 2019 Share #1 Posted June 4, 2019 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Some photos to try this new acquired objective. The photos were taken without IR / UV filter and most of them in JPG, the DNG once processed with the RAW camera and Photoshop, I liked the JPG better. * Do you think that with the UV / IR filter, the colors would have been more natural and real? ... * I have seen on the Internet, UV / IR filters (E46) for sale and I have only found the Leica brand, which, if they are new, have seemed expensive, I have seen some used at prices between 60 and 80 €. . . Do you deserve to buy such a used filter? .. * Are there UV / IR filters (E46) from a different brand than Leica? Welcome, dear visitor! lct Posted June 4, 2019 Share #2 Posted June 4, 2019 In my experience (M8.2 user since 2011), IR-cut filters are mandatory on the M8. Inexpensive ones are easy to find on e**y. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html_nkw=uv+ir+46mm&ul_noapp=true&_sop=15

silverchrome Posted June 4, 2019 Share #4 Posted June 4, 2019 (edited) Just buy the B+W ones off Amazon, they shouldn't be more than £35 or so for the 46mm. They seem to be better quality as well. Edited June 4, 2019 by silverchrome

There is no free lunch. If you want the best quality, choose a Leica, B+W or Heliopan IR-cut filter which are more expensive but i have a cheap Rocolax myself and it works fine albeit with a bit more flare than my usual Leica's.

Si desea la mejor calidad, elija un filtro de corte IR Leica, B + W o Heliopan, que son más caros, pero yo también tengo un Rocolax barato y funciona bien, aunque con un poco más de brillo que el de mi Leica habitual. At the end after looking a lot I decide for the one I show in the photo: (New) Inside the Leica, each house has a price, it has cost me to get one at an average price. Welcome, dear visitor! lct Posted June 5, 2019 Share #7 Posted June 5, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well done. AFAIK Leica UV/IR filters are the only ones allowing to remove the glass from the filter mount and to screw another filter or a screw-in hood into them.

I prefer to take black and white pictures without the UV/IR filter because the pictures seem to have more depth. YMMV*. There are many others on the forum who do the same. a.noctilux Posted June 10, 2019 Share #11 Posted June 10, 2019 (edited) Black&white from M8's jpeg can benefit from not using UV/IR filter as some subject may have more or less IR waves. In my use, when I wanted B&W jpeg from M8, I don't use UV/IR filter anyway, most of time. But in photos of green plants ( which emit more IR ) in scenic pictures, the plants seem "pale and not very contrasty" in photos without UV/IR filter. This is without UV/IR filter (but working from DNG, sorry) Welcome, dear visitor! a.noctilux Posted June 10, 2019 Share #12 Posted June 10, 2019 Some portrait, without UV/IR filter can do well to the image (necessity here, I don't have E41 UV/IR filter to mount to the old Summarit 1.5/50mm LTM) Welcome, dear visitor! Ko.Fe. Posted June 10, 2019 Share #14 Posted June 10, 2019 If I need cheap filters I'm buying on ebay. If I need good and not overpriced, BH. Last time I was buying cheap IR cut filter on ebay, I have to pay twice. China sellers don't know what they sell, sometimes. 1

You would see that Leica had done good job on M10 😉. I now do use M8 for IR pictures that it's the "best M" for that use. M8 can do most of newer M pictures if one can live with it's limitations of digital camera, don't forget that M8 is in good shape for it's dozen years. Welcome, dear visitor!
