Thank you for your comment on the Heliopan.  I learnt from elsewhere that the variable Heliopan has a tendency to vignette more on the Noctilux with six stops in comparison to five, four, or three.  Please advise if you have a similar experience.

True, I can confirm that. Heavy vignetting cannot always be fixed by software (maybe I use the wrong software or due to lack of skills). Maybe I am the only one but I like hardware vignette in combination with a wide open lens.

The alternative is to use a 62mm Heliopan Vario-ND and a 60 to 62 mm step-up ring if the vignetting is too intrusive.  It's worth remembering that the f/1.0 itself vignettes at f/1.0 without a filter attached (which some of us find attractive) so the Vario-ND is only adding to the 'natural' vignetting.

I use exactly the 62mm Vario Heliopan Filter with a 60mm step up adapter. Both have a decent weight and adds additional 200 gram to the clunky (but excellent) Noctilux.

Quite a long while ago, I posted here that I really should stop following the thread - temptation was gathering force.  For a while I managed to go 'cold-turkey' but then relapsed.  Result?  I just took the plunge and pushed the button on an f1 v4 which hopefully will arrive early next week.  Being something of monochrome maniac, main use will be on my M10M (with Visoflex 020 if needed) but I will dabble with some rolls of b&w in my M7 (high time I used it again - eleven months of M10M ownership has left it on the shelf).  Colour-wise I'll probably use my A7III to take advantage of the EVF / focus peaking rather than my M240.  Wish me luck!

Actually, one of my main concerns was regarding weight and bulk and to test this I put my 21-35mm Vario-R + adaptor on M10M. Assembly weight is close to how it will be with the Noctilux.  Seems to be manageable, at least for my nowadays usual outing length of an hour or so.  (D-Lux 7 photo).

Keith you're in for a treat - I got a v3 in June and the combination with the M10M is a joy. I don't find it too heavy or unbalanced, though clearly it's not like having a Summicron or Elmar 50 on your M. The grip does help though. For occasional colour (and its palette I find exquisite) I put it on the SL and it's stellar on there too.

Sadly mine has been with Malcolm Taylor for months now (just to have the focus ring smoothed a bit)  - if it hadn't been for the Covid restrictions I should have been beside myself with impatience!

Noctilux 0.95 on M240 in Washington, DC.  And now, your bishop is gone.  The file is OOC.   It was an amazingly sunny, calm and enjoyable walk in DC today.

Reference #1167, my new acquisition arrived midday today - an f1 v4 manuf 1995 (according to Leica WiKi).  The weather has not played ball so have been constrained to roaming the house looking for subjects.

Peeping thro' the pantry door.

Took my f1 v4 for its first outdoor session this morning, using my A7III mainly to ensure I could keep the lens at f1 without running into a shutter speed limit.

Last picture is a great representation of what the Leica F1 Noctilux can do. It looks to me as if you are walking into a dream land or Alice in Wonderland.

Here are two photos taken on M10 wide open 5 seconds apart.  The first is focused at 3 meters, the second focused at 1.2 meters.  Love the bokeh at both focus distances.

The only shot from Sunday morning's outing in bright sunshine where I could use f1 without blowing highlights (M10M).

Took advantage of a brief(ish) dry spell this morning to take my f1 v4 + M240 for a walk around our local lake to further explore the Noctilux's capabilities (and foibles) when used wide open.  One purpose was to 'play about' with specular highlights and subject separation - examples below.  Comments appreciated!

There will be more from this morning's little outing. ;)
