I appreciate for many, this is little more than a parade of shallow depth of field images to little value; but I do enjoy them nonetheless.

In the few years I’ve had my Noctilux 0.95, I’ve learned a couple of things - (1) the control of depth of field is critical for image isolation, so make sure your subject is in focus.  That may mean stopping down a little to get more than the pupil in the plane of best focus; and (2) take care with your background; busy backgrounds will almost always detract from your image, whereas a smooth background is more likely to be creamy - like 01maciel’s image above.

The colour palette of the F/1 Noctilux is very distinctive, and very charming - a great complement to the more modern lenses like the APO Summicron ...

In other words, practice the same good shooting fundamentals as with any lens: subject in focus and watch backgrounds. Noctilux users often reveal these basic learnings, or lack thereof.  Mike Johnston just wrote a piece on the second point...

I completely agree with IkarusJohn, the color palette of the "old" noctilux is wonderful! Compared to the newest and perfect 0.95, in my opinion, the 50 f1 creates a greater "3D effect". The two Noctilux are fantastic lenses, very difficult to decide which is the best😉

Not really wide open. Between f2.8 and 4 the Noctilux is sharp as a tack. I am really impressed. PP: cropped, adjusted local contrast and sharpness, resized for LUF

The year is 2020 A.D. The picture is entirely blurry. Well, not entirely... One small stripe of shallow depth still holds out against the uncertainty (text based on The Adventures of Asterix) ;)
