Why is this photo still on the Favourite Images Page?

It is the algorithm.. I once had a photo in there  for a month with only 7 likes; I thought it a pretty good shot, mind you ;) and another one with 24 never made it in the same period.

So, the algorithm needs to be changed. Though it's not a matter of earth-shaking importance, if you're going to have a page of favourite images, it ought to mean something.

The problem is not trivial. One way to criticism is for the site owner-operator to disclose the method. I certainly do not mean that as a challenge, but a call for our experienced participants to contribute.

The system is throwing up so many anomalies that it is failing to identify favourite images. In reality, it is presenting a random selection of images. Nothing wrong with showcasing a random selection of images but they shouldn’t be described as favourite when they are no such thing.

Yet another problem, as noted here before, are threads with a fixed claque, which throw up so many thanks that they tend to drown out the rest of the forum. I'm really sure that Andreas has done his best to make the system as fair as possible, but he is limited by the software.

I agree about the label of "favourite". It introduces an element of competition, which should not be there. It is about showcasing.

Yes, showcasing the best work as measured by the number of "likes" received over a given period of time. That does not seem like it should be a difficult problem to solve, but perhaps the software will not allow it. If that is the case, I suggest discussing the matter with the software developers.

Apologies for dragging the shortcomings of the Favourites gallery up again but I see a whimsical flow chart, (post #203) that's presumably not the poster's own work, included in the top gallery.  It's not a photograph, therefore it's not taken with Leica equipment* and has no business being there.  I think the algorithms that are being used really need sorting out.

*Apart from the 'I like film thread'.  (I have felt for some time that the 'cost' of the 'I like film thread' thread being allowed to include pictures taken with any brand gear should be exclusion from the favourites page.  After all, this is the Leica forum and the favourites page is regularly swamped by pictures from non-Leica equipment.)

Pete.
