robgo2 Posted May 20, 2019 Share #1 Posted May 20, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) It has been there for quite a while, yet has only 13 likes and 1 thanks. I just don't understand how the system works.
Advertisement Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 Hi robgo2, Take a look here Why is this photo still on the Favourite Images Page?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted May 20, 2019 Share #2 Posted May 20, 2019 It is the algorithm.. I once had a photo in there for a month with only 7 likes; I thought it a pretty good shot, mind you and another one with 24 never made it in the same period.

Though it's not a matter of earth-shaking importance, if you're going to have a page of favourite images, it ought to mean something.

One way to criticism is for the site owner-operator to disclose the method. I certainly do not mean that as a challenge, but a call for our experienced participants to contribute. jaapv Posted May 20, 2019 Share #5 Posted May 20, 2019 I think it is a fixed preset in the software.
euston Posted May 21, 2019 Share #6 Posted May 21, 2019 The system is throwing up so many anomalies that it is failing to identify favourite images. In reality, it is presenting a random selection of images. Nothing wrong with showcasing a random selection of images but they shouldn’t be described as favourite when they are no such thing.
jaapv Posted May 21, 2019 Share #7 Posted May 21, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yet another problem, as noted here before, are threads with a fixed claque, which throw up so many thanks that they tend to drown out the rest of the forum. I'm really sure that Andreas has done his best to make the system as fair as possible, but he is limited by the software. I agree about the label of "favourite". It introduces an element of competition, which should not be there. It is about showcasing.

That does not seem like it should be a difficult problem to solve, but perhaps the software will not allow it. If that is the case, I suggest discussing the matter with the software developers. robgo2 Posted May 23, 2019 Author Share #9 Posted May 23, 2019 BTW, the aforementioned photo is still up on the favourites page. 😩
jaapv Posted May 26, 2019 Share #10 Posted May 26, 2019 This one gathered 28 likes and never made it to the favourites page. This one gathered 14 and was in there for over three weeks.
jaapv Posted November 6, 2019 Share #11 Posted November 6, 2019 I still cannot figure it out. This week I had images gathering 14, 16 and 20 likes and they did not make it into the favourites, and I see images with 10 like appearing...🥴
robgo2 Posted November 6, 2019 Author Share #12 Posted November 6, 2019 Another thing about the favorites page: A high percentage of the photos are of pretty women. If that's what people like, then so be it, but it does tend to skew the results away from other photos that may be of higher quality.

jaapv Posted November 13, 2019 Share #14 Posted November 13, 2019 Yep, one with 9 likes of mine made id easily, one with 20 is still out...
farnz Posted July 14, 2020 Share #15 Posted July 14, 2020 (edited) Apologies for dragging the shortcomings of the Favourites gallery up again but I see a whimsical flow chart, (post #203) that's presumably not the poster's own work, included in the top gallery. It's not a photograph, therefore it's not taken with Leica equipment* and has no business being there. I think the algorithms that are being used really need sorting out. *Apart from the 'I like film thread'. (I have felt for some time that the 'cost' of the 'I like film thread' thread being allowed to include pictures taken with any brand gear should be exclusion from the favourites page. After all, this is the Leica forum and the favourites page is regularly swamped by pictures from non-Leica equipment.) Pete.
