Should prior experience be any guide to the  timing of the next iteration? M10 prices have come down quite a bit (?oversupply vs M11 around the corner). Is it worth buying a new MP or waiting? If MX is indeed coming with a 47MP sensor this will delay an M11.

Haven't noticed any decrease in M10 prices here in the Netherlands (second hand perhaps) but I'm going to wait for the M11 anyway (not in a hurry to upgrade my current M).

Of course only Leica knows, but if past experience is any indication, the M11 would be roughly 4 years after the M10, meaning January 2021.  The P version of the M240 was released roughly a year and a half after the M240 release (April 2013 to September 2014). Both the S and SL new models are expected roughly on that same 4 year cycle.

But Leica can also be unpredictable.

There’s always going to be another camera around the corner. Is there a reason to change what you have?  Or are you just looking forward to what’s around the corner?  That is always fun - you know it will be better ...

Leica Rumors website just announce the forthcoming availability of the M10 to M10 P conversion in the USA.

Initially, this conversion was not interesting to me, but then I dinged the top of one of my M10 bodies. Replacing the top plate is a $1,000 repair and it is estimated that the the ding will reduce my trade in value by about $500. Ouch!

Now the estimated $3,995 cost for the full conversion which basically turns your M10 into an M10 and gives you a new 1 year warranty doesn't seem like such a bad deal, for Leica. it's less costly than trading my M10 in on a new M10 P. Hmmm.

I emailed the Leica service center in NJ this morning for the availability, cost and how long it takes to do the conversion. We'll see what they tell me. They are notoriously bad about responding to emails.

Bud James

If the rumors turn out to be true and Leica launches an M10X, I think that would delay the release of a M11 somewhat substantially. And this makes sense to me because there isn’t much to tweak on the M10 chassis or electronics in my opinion.

The rangefinder itself is the only area of weakness I see on the M10 and I only mean that it can drift out of adjustment.

If only Leica could put that issue to bed without getting rid of the OVF. I love me some rangefinder focusing.

Personally have found that leaving a voicemail may be more effective than email with Leica NJ.

In any event, if the ding drops the re-sale value to, say, $4500, you can at the moment get a nearly-new Safari at Tamarkin Camera for $7000 and a demo MP black/silver from Popflash for ~$7300 with a 2-year Passport. Either way, less than shelling out $4k for a conversion.

I am told (though I cannot confirm this) that the persnickety 2nd-hand buyers looking for an MP will know whether the serial # is that of a conversion or the "real deal". May affect the resale value down the line.

I just received an email reply from the Leica service center in Allendale, NJ regarding the M10 to M10 P conversion program.

The full conversion cost is $2,995, takes 4-6 weeks, and is done at the Wetzlar factory. The NJ service center accepts the shipments for the program.

I just shipped my M10 to them for the full conversion. Woohoo!

Bud James

Passports (including accidental damage) on cameras in the US were ended long ago, now only standard warranty.  Lenses still retain Passport AFAIK.

Whatever they call their 2-year warranty nowadays.

As from the M8 to M8.2 upgrade plan onwards there’s no need to check serial numbers - the model designation is on the hotshoe which doesn’t get changed.........
